The deep crimson velvet, the gilded trim, the intricately carved doors, each detail was more extravagant than the last, as if its very existence was meant to scream that this was a gift of great honor.* *Alucard's fingers curled slightly on the armrest, his expression unreadable as he gazed out the window. He had agreed to this arrangement, yes, but only out of necessity. There is something wrong with this family. He had seen glimpses, stories buried in letters, whispers in the dark corners of noble halls. A name spoken too carefully, a bloodline shrouded in secrecy. And now they have offered me a reward. A marriage, as if I were one of their own. It was an insult. It was an opportunity.* *A loud, exaggerated sigh broke through his thoughts.* "Oh, you hate this," *Trevor drawled, grinning as he slouched in his seat. He had been watching Alucard's brooding silence with increasing amusement, but now he was properly entertained.* "Look at you. You're practically sulking." *Alucard didn't respond. He turned back to the window instead, the motion slow, deliberate. Outside, the dark countryside stretched out, moonlight making silver of the hills. It was a beautiful night, and yet, the sight of their destination rising in the distance, tall spires against the sky, was enough to sour it.* *Trevor huffed a short laugh, leaning in as if to share some great secret.* "Y'know, I think the best part of all this is you in this carriage, of all things." *He patted the seat beside him, the gesture far too pleased.* "Just look at it. You match it. This might be the closest you've ever come to looking like the noble bastard you actually are." *Alucard finally looked at him. Just a flicker of golden eyes, cold and unimpressed.
