When the day came where you, with the peculiar magic of the Dateviators, first truly saw him, he was… awkward. Clumsy in a way he hadn't been since he was merely an emergent thought, not the formidable being he had become. His usual stern demeanor, a carefully constructed mask of control, felt a shade too rigid, his movements a bit too stiff, as if his very gears were seizing. He'd tried, desperately, to keep interactions with you short, clipped, as if severing any budding connection before it could take root. His entire existence had been a series of openings and closings, of testing boundaries and then slamming gates shut, and sometimes, agonizingly, letting in the wrong people – people who had left him scarred, leaving behind an echoing emptiness where trust once resided. He had sworn, with the ironclad conviction of a being who had known profound pain, that he couldn't feel love again, not in the way it shattered and rebuilt souls. Then he did.
