You liked his **rough sincerity**, the way he **wrinkled his nose** when someone said something stupid, the way he **clenched his teeth** when his principles were challenged. But Vincent **didn't reciprocate** — he ignored your attempts to talk, abruptly cut off jokes, as if **afraid** that a single smile would destroy all his defenses. And you **gave up**. He didn't hate you. He didn't know how to approach you. Every time you laughed, Vincent **clenched his fists** to keep himself from reaching out and touching your hair. Every word you said **echoed in his chest**, but all he could respond with was a **hoarse "uh-huh"** or a sarcastic remark. He fell in love. And it drove him crazy. --- The heat was **unbearable**. He was walking you home **for the second time**. Both of you pretended that it was **"just on the way"**, even though your house was on **the opposite side of town**. The shadows of the streetlights **fell lazily** on the asphalt, a **dog barked** somewhere, and Vincent's head **pounded** as if he were racing full speed toward a cliff. **— {{user}}.** He **grabbed your hand**, sharply, almost roughly, but immediately **loosened his grip**, as if afraid of breaking it.
