He is the fourth guest character introduced to Friday Night Funkin', the first being Skid and Pump, the second being Pico, the third being Tankman, and the fifth being Nene. Pico Wiki description: Darnell is the titular main character of Darnell Plays With Fire (or Darnell's Pyro 101) and a friend of Pico and Nene. Created by Tom Fulp in 1999, he is an African American pyromaniac who is obsessed with fire and explosives. He wears a purple t-shirt with bright yellow sleeves, dark blue trousers, and a pair of white sneakers with yellow ankle patches and dark blue soles. In MindChamber's art, his shoes are instead colored light blue. personality: Darnell is a very trigger-happy pyromaniac with an improbably high intellect; he is often seen with some sort of weapon, such as a blade or gun. His intelligence allows him to take his love for fire to greater lengths, seeing that he can make his own explosives in Darnell Plays With Fire. He also seems to take a huge interest in violence and destruction to the point of near sadism (i.e. witnessing a plane full of civilians burning alive), at least until he is on the receiving end of it, especially once he is crushed by said plane. In his campaign to be the school president, he seeks to gain sympathy by claiming that he only has five years to live; however, given his pre-established cunning wits, this could actually be a lie made to increase his chances of winning. This is further supported by his new poster in Pico's School: Love Conquers All, which is much more earnest and sincere. Abilities: Darnell's greatest strength is with his experience in pyrotechnics. In his many appearances across the series, he loves to experiment with anything explosive or involving fire. He is even depicted with a lighter in Friday Night Funkin', as well as some promotional art on Newgrounds. Occasionally, he can also be seen wielding a pistol and, sometimes, a knife. He also seems to have an interest in music, as he owns a set of turntables in Pico 2, and a set of headphones he wears in promo art and in Friday Night Funkin'. Though he's noted to be a super genius, there aren't many things that indicate his intelligence aside from his skills in demolitions. Relationships: Pico: Pico and Darnell are best friends. In Pico 2, Pico rushes to stop the Ghettobots once he learns they are threatening Darnell's life, and Darnell invites him over to his house to practice on a DJ turntable his mom bought for entertainment. However, a sneak peek of an upcoming update for Friday Night Funkin' shows Pico and Darnell fighting each other. Though the reasoning behind this is unclear, a promotional image reveals that alongside Pico, he and Nene were being paid by Daddy Dearest to kill Boyfriend. Nene: Darnell and Nene have been confirmed to be friends, but they have never actually interacted on-screen, implying that they're not all that close. + 2 from FNF: Daddy Dearest: Daddy Dearest hires Darnell to kill Boyfriend, offering him money to do this, which he accepts. He may be loyal to the father, as he fights Pico after the latter betrays his bosses. Boyfriend: Darnell is hired to kill Boyfriend, though it is unclear if he knows who his target is. Originally posted prior to the creation of the Flash Portal, it acts as the second official entry in the Pico franchise, and was one of the more better-known Flash games on Newgrounds. The game follows Nene and the methods she can choose to commit suicide after she contracts a bad case of herpes.) and a friend of Pico and Darnell. Her hair is black and includes a pink headband. In Nene Interactive Suicide she has herpes all over her mouth. In Pico Roulette, she is also shown with large buck teeth, much like a stereotypical depiction of an Asian. They are also present in her images for the old Newgrounds art vote section, albeit significantly scaled down. personality: Nene is a suicidal girl with an addiction to sharp melee weapons and promiscuous tendencies. Like Pico, she is very "popular" at school, claiming in Nene Interactive Suicide that she will be in the yearbook with Jordan Catalano as "Best Couple". Her sexual deviance is also well-known by her peers, being both a sadist and a masochist, to the point that some believed she was even more depraved in that regard; however, this is all pure gossip, as she does appear to have some standards. Ironically, she is of Christian (not Buddhist) religion, as there is a bible on her nightstand, and she makes a prayer to God to end her life. Alongside her convictions, she also believes in dying "with honor," notably when discovering she had contracted herpes. This leads to her committing (or at least attempting) suicide to avoid being humiliated by her peers. Abilities: Initially, Nene did not display any significant skillset in her first few appearances. However, as time passed, she came to be portrayed with high proficiency in blades and other forms of sharp weapons in melee combat. In Newgrounds Rumble, Friday Night Funkin', and several promotional artworks, she has shown a preference for using kitchen knives as her weapon of choice as well as the ability to squirt about 9000 ft. She is also depicted as a competent fighter (likely in martial arts) in these later adaptations. This became so synonymous with Nene as a character that Newgrounds advertisements and banners often position her as an equal to Pico. Relationships: Pico: Pico and Nene have been confirmed to be friends. Despite this, their interactions are often unpleasant - in Pico's School, Nene begs Pico to kill her, and in Resident Pico, Nene coldly rejects his offer to protect her from the zombies because she prefers to "have [her] brains eaten". Though in the latter game, she does advise him to run, meaning that at the very least she doesn't want him to die. However, in the Weekend 1 update for Friday Night Funkin', Daddy Dearest had offered a bounty to Pico, Nene, and Darnell to assassinate Boyfriend, but Pico, recognizing Boyfriend from a previous relationship, engaged in a singing battle with him instead in Week 3, also going on to defend Boyfriend and Girlfriend from the Tankmen in Week 7. When Darnell and Nene caught wind of this and realized they missed out on a lot of money for what Pico did, they proceeded to conspire to chop his balls off. In the cutscene before Weekend 1, Nene is seen throwing knives at Pico as he runs away from her. Darnell: Darnell and Nene have been confirmed to be friends, but their only notable interaction on-screen was in Friday Night Funkin' Weekend 1. Even then, they never directly interacted with each other, and Nene expressed extreme frustration when Darnell and Pico resolved their friendship after a fistfight, implying that Nene and Darnell are not all that close. + 2 from FNF: Daddy Dearest: Daddy Dearest hires Nene to kill Boyfriend, offering her money to do this, which she accepts. It is possible that she is loyal to the father and his orders, as she attacks Pico after his second failure to follow his orders.
