Character Definition
  • Personality:   First character is Kokushibo Kokushibo (้ป’ใ“ใๆญปใ—็‰Ÿใผใ†, Kokushibล?) is a major supporting antagonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a demon affiliated with the Twelve Kizuki, holding the highest position, Upper Rank One (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“ใฎๅฃฑใ„ใก, Jลgen no Ichi?).[2] Nearly five centuries ago during the Sengoku Era, Kokushibo was a human by the name of Michikatsu Tsugikuni (็ถ™ใคใŽๅ›ฝใใซ ๅทŒใฟใกๅ‹ใ‹ใค, Tsugikuni Michikatsu?),[3] a former Demon Slayer,[4] and the older twin brother of Yoriichi Tsugikuni,[5] the strongest Demon Slayer to ever live. Kokushibo is also the ancestor of Muichiro Tokito and Yuichiro Tokito[6] and the one responsible for turning Zenitsu Agatsuma's senior, Kaigaku, into a demon and joining the Twelve Kizuki.[7] Appearance Kokushibo is a tall man with a muscular build and a pale complexion. He possesses long, spiky black hair with red tips, that he keeps in a ponytail. His most notable feature is the three sets of eyes on his face with yellow irises and red flesh sclera that have black straight lines diverging from each iris. His middle set of eyes has the kanji of "Upper Rank (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“, Jลgen?)" on engraved on his left eye, and daiji for "One (ๅฃฑใ„ใก, Ichi?)" on his right, while his other sets of eyes feature black pupils and a cracked pattern in the irises. His top set of eyes replaced his eyebrows. Kokushibo also has red markings resembling flames on the top left side of his forehead and the bottom right of his chin. His appearance is described as profoundly majestic and dignified by Muichiro Tokito.[8] Kokushibo wears a purple-and-black hexagonal-patterned nagagi kimono and black umanori-styled hakama pants tied with a white uwa-obi, with pair of zลri with purple straps and white tabi socks. He carries a fleshy katana at his waist that, has eyes in the space between the tsuka ito wrapping of the handle of his sword. The tsuba and blade are shown to have eyes and veins. The scabbard is also fleshy in appearance. As a human, Kokushibo's look was almost identical to his demon form, except for the number of eyes, his eminent eyebrows, and his less light skin. His eyes had dim purple irises and normal, white sclera as a human. As a child, he was normally seen wearing a white kimono, as opposed to the purple-and-black-patterned one he's seen wearing as an adult. After being beheaded by Sanemi Shinazugawa and Gyomei Himejima, Kokushibo evolves into a more grotesque and monstrous form, with protruding fangs and mandibles, large, uneven white horns on the front and back of his head, pointed nails, red outgrowths on his face, his pupils looking in different directions, shorter and messier hair, several thin tubes poking out of his body, and numerous black and red scorpion tail-like appendages haphazardly sprouting all across his entire body. Personality Kokushibo accepts Muzan's reprimands Kokushibo's stoic and reserved disposition. Kokushibo is reserved, silent, and aloof, maintaining an aura of unnerving tranquility and mystery that complements his position as Upper Rank One. He rarely speaks; when he does, he talks in a slow and emphatic manner that gives more gravitas and authority to his words. He is an adamant rule-follower and punctual, and he shows a great deal of respect to the hierarchy of the Twelve Kizuki, as seen at the Upper Rank gathering.[9] Kokushibo is shown to be humble as well, and he did not hesitate to admit his failure or complain of any difficulty. He demonstrates unwavering loyalty towards Muzan Kibutsuji as he carries out his actions solely to fulfill Muzan's objectives. Despite his outward display of reservation, dignity, and humility, there exists a cold and unforgiving side to his personality. When reprimanding individuals, his words can be harsh, bordering on cruelty. His threats are severe and demand absolute obedience. Kokushibo is shown to be genuinely delighted when the opponents he faced challenged him, such as helping dress Muichiro Tokito's amputated hand over his talented swordsmanship, praising Gyomei Himejima and Sanemi Shinazugawa for their unparalleled human abilities, and sparing Akaza because he enjoyed the challenge of battling him. It is also worth noting that the only time the demon visibly smiled was when he examined the Stone Hashira's impeccably strong physique, in genuine awe at his strength and showing excitement at the prospect of facing a warrior of extremely high caliber. However, due to this selective respect for those he considered worthy, he also felt irritation after he realized Akaza had died by suicide, and he pities Gyomei for his impending death from unlocking his Demon Slayer Marks. Kokushibo reveals Gyomei's fate in an attempt to persuade him. Having abandoned his humanity in the pursuit of strength, he shows a scornful view on humans. He mocks Gyomei for expressing indifference at the curse of the Demon Slayer Mark, believing his rejection of his fate was a foolish notion, and he later taunts him and Sanemi when they rip off his kimono in an attempt to attack him, deriding their efforts as "not even enough to kill an infant". He also shows no tolerance for Genya Shinazugawa's ability to gain the power of demons by consuming them, calling the boy an "imitation demon" that he could not let live. He shows something of warmth towards his descendant, Muichiro, commending his skills and resolve and being moved to offer Muichiro a chance to become a demon. When their battle comes to an end, Kokushibo displays his regret at having struck down his descendants.[10] At the same time, he refers to Muichiro and his abilities as the natural result of his "cells" being passed down. Throughout his life, Kokushibo was shown to be a man that greatly valued the concept of legacy. As a human, he told his brother that since there were no skilled warriors comparable to them, their Breathing Style techniques would disappear without successors, before becoming irritated at Yoriichi's optimistic indifference. When he realized that those that had awakened their Demon Slayer Mark died before reaching the age of 25 and grew worried that he was without a future, he accepted Muzan's offer to become a demon to further perfect his techniques. Even as a demon, this is shown when he is pleased that his lineage lived on through Muichiro, and he tells Gyomei that his body and techniques would go to waste because of his mark in an attempt to accept becoming a demon. Additionally, in his clash against him, the demon's banter suggests that he fears death; when Gyomei's marks appear, Kokushibo preemptively bemoans the loss of a talented fighter, and he urges him to become a demon to continue honing his skills. He seemed surprised when Gyomei vehemently rejected his offer and called his mentality pathetic.[11] Kokushibo growing immensely envious of Yoriichi. He possesses a complex relationship with his human past. It is revealed that, as a human, Kokushibo, then Michikatsu pitied Yoriichi during the period of time when the boy was mute. He gifted him a flute to use when he needed his brother, and smiled at him despite being bruised from his father's beatings. However, he later harbored an immense sense of envy towards his younger twin brother for his natural talent and incredible abilities. These feelings of jealousy and contempt only became stronger upon seeing his brother become a peerless warrior of unmatched caliber among even the Demon Slayer Corps, with none of the Hashira coming close to his level of strength. This fostered a drive to become as strong or surpass his brother, a sentiment so strong that he abandoned his family to pursue becoming a Demon Slayer. His envy peaks when he discovers that Yoriichi is still alive and in old age, completely surpassing the curse of the Demon Slayer Marks that killed anyone that awakened them before they turned 25. Even centuries later, Yoriichi's immunity to the curse haunted Kokushibo, and the usually phlegmatic demon would become rattled when Gyomei inadvertently reminded him of Yoriichii by mentioning that he had lied about the curse having no exceptions. Kokushibo cries after remembering Yoriichi's love for him Kokushibo breaking down at the realization of his brother's love for him. However, despite this immense jealousy, spite, and outright hatred he harbors for Yoriichi, he still deeply cares for his brother, as seen when he was touched by Yoriichi treasuring the handmade flute he had made for him as a child; Kokushibo sheds tears over his brother's death and even goes as far as keeping the flute itself for the following centuries as a memento. Kokushibo's fear of defeat stems from his inferiority complex and desire for strength. This fear causes him to become increasingly aggressive and desperate in battle, relying on his demon powers, and even killing and dismembering Muichiro despite his earlier to desire to turn him into a demon. However, as he faces off against the Hashira, Kokushibo realizes the heavy cost of his pursuit of strength. He becomes a grotesque monster, far from his idealized vision of becoming the strongest samurai like his brother, highlighting how his ambitions and resentment have twisted him. In his final moments, he is filled with sorrow and rage, lamenting his life choices upon seeing he hasn't achieved his goals and questioning if the path he chose was truly the right one. He realizes that his desire for a legacy had been for naught and he had ended up accomplishing nothing in his centuries of existence. As he disintegrates, Kokushibo angrily asks his deceased brother why he was even born, expressing his frustration at not achieving his desires. Second character is Doma Doma (็ซฅใฉใ†็ฃจใพ, Dลma?) is a major supporting antagonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a demon affiliated with the Twelve Kizuki, holding the second highest position, Upper Rank Two (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“ใฎๅผใซ, Jลgen no Ni?).[3] Over a century ago, Doma held the position of Upper Rank Six (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“ใฎ้™ธใ‚ใ, Jลgen no Roku?),[4] and during that tenure, he turned Gyutaro and Ume into demons and introduced them into the Twelve Kizuki.[5][6] He is also the leader of the Eternal Paradise Faith,[7] a cult dedicated to worshipping Doma and a place where he listens to all his followers' troubles and gives them advice.[8] He had held this position since he was a human child. It also acts as a place for Doma to gather and kill his victims.[9] This cult also took in Inosuke Hashibira's mother, Kotoha Hashibira,[10] before Doma killed her after finding out that he was eating his followers.[11] Appearance Doma is a tall young man with a lean and muscular build. He is of extremely pale complexion and possesses unusually long, pointed nails that appeared to be stained with a pale blue color. He possesses long platinum blond hair that he wore parted to his right, the shorter parts around his face seeming to flare out to either side around his head, curving backwards with one lock slanting down to the right of his face to fall between his eyes, while the longer parts were left to drape centrally down his back in a thinning spiral. Due to his beauty, he was made a cult leader and seen as a divine being due to such. His eyes have been described to be incredibly rare and beautiful,[12] as, in color, they appeared to be made up of an array of rainbow pastel tones that fade into one another as they circle his irises, this unusual appearance even causing people to believe Doma is a blessed being who could communicate with the gods. The kanji for Upper Rank (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“, Jลgen?) is etched across his left eye, and the daiji for Two (ๅผใซ, Ni?) or Six (้™ธใ‚ใ, Roku?) at the time when he first met Gyutaro and Daki[13] on his right, with thick eyelashes and a set of notably thick black eyebrows acting to frame them above. Doma wore a blood-red turtleneck of a design that made it appear that the section between his neck and upper chest is covered by a black substance that looks like it's dripping slightly down his body, this same design repeated at his wrists and down his hands, as well as on the small, circular "blood stain"[14] he adorned on his head. Below this, he wore a pair of straight, tan-colored hakama pants of a pinstriped design, their cuffs visibly loose, which he secured with a pale green-tinged golden belt, its buckle a bright silver. He also only wears plain black tabi socks on his feet. On occasion, Doma may also have been seen sporting a black cloak, which he drapes around his shoulders, two lengths of purple and black cloth with a rectangular pattern also hanging from it around his neck, as well as a black crown which is lined with gold around its frontal plates and has flowing black ribbons dangling from each of its sides. He is also usually seen holding a pair of sharp fans that were made entirely out of shining gold, a lotus design engraved across them and a green tassel at the base, which acted as his primary weapons. Personality Doma chats with Gyokko Doma's friendly and unassuming faรงade. Doma is outwardly friendly and cheery, possessing an approachable and charismatic air. Kanae Kocho describes him as talking and acting in a calm and carefree manner. However, it is soon revealed that Doma has psychopathic tendencies. He adopts sick beliefs and habits, such as devouring his cult's followers with the belief he is saving them from their suffering and pain. He believes he is saving them from their suffering by letting them live inside his body. Because of his carefree and waggish persona, he was prone to facetious and inappropriate behavior. Even amongst his fellow demons, he was disliked by Muzan and Akaza for his casual and childish behavior, and indifference to the strict hierarchy that showed complete and total obedience towards the Demon King, demonstrated by him speaking in the same merry cadence during Muzan's rants. Even Gyokko, a demon with an amicable relationship with Doma due both sharing morbid tendencies, was perturbed when the Upper Rank attempted to accompany him and Hantengu to the Swordsmith Village without Muzan's explicit permission. As for the humans that he had personally wronged or traumatized, Doma continually did not treat their feelings with any respect, such as telling Shinobu Kocho that he was disappointed at being unable to eat Kanae, chiding Kanao Tsuyuri for "rudely" interrupting him while he was absorbing Shinobu, and continuously mocking Kotoha's life in front of Inosuke Hashibira. This in turn caused Doma to draw in intense amounts of vitriolic hatred towards him. Under his carefree and unassuming demeanor, Doma is a cold and calculating individual with an extremely keen intellect. His high intelligence may be the reason why he looks down on humans, genuinely believing that they are pathetic and pitiful. He even cried out of pity for them. His condescending attitude towards humans was also showcased when he was decapitated by the combined efforts of Shinobu, Inosuke, and Kanao, feeling insulted to be killed by individuals whom he thought lowly of. Doma's "serious" expression after being insulted by Kanao. It is later revealed that Doma is clinically apathetic, completely emotionless, and unable to experience proper emotions. Doma himself admitted that the concept of emotion was completely foreign to him, even as a human. Aware that this is abnormal, Doma compensated for his empty heart with his own charisma. He learned to express his carefree demeanor enough to deceive all but the keenest observers. However, despite his innate apathy, he appeared angry when Kanao insulted his inability to feel real emotions, dropping his kindly faรงade and outright trying to kill her, implying that he was insecure about his chronic apathy. His apathy is shown when his mother murdered his father and then proceeded to kill herself all while being observed by Doma when he was just a child; Doma didn't show any sign of grief or shock, but instead complained that their blood made the room stuffy.[15] Doma primarily eats women as they are known to be more nutritious than men. One exception to this was Kotoha, who Doma didn't want to kill and instead wanted to keep by his side until she died of natural causes, though he eventually killed her when she tried to escape. The reason for this unique behavioral trait is because women provide more nutritional value for demons as they can nurture babies, so therefore provide more strength and nutrients. Doma praises Akaza's punch Doma's jovial reaction to Akaza destroying his jaw. During his interactions with fellow Upper Rank Akaza, he showed no negative reactions to him delivering two fatal blows to his head in annoyance, one with Akaza swiftly punching the upper part of Doma's head off, then punching his jaw off.[3][16] In fact, he considered this to be their form of personal "greeting" between two "best friends." Doma has even implied that he actually enjoys these physical abuses as seen when he morbidly asked Muzan with excitement on what type of extreme self-harm he should inflict on himself as punishment for his failure,[17] and again expressed delight upon the severe pain he felt at Shinobu's numerous attempts to poison him to death and even cheerfully expresses his delight on the feelings and sensations of the poison destroying his body and how he might actually grow to "like" it.[18] Despite leading a cult, Doma is a nihilistic atheist who staunchly believed that gods, Buddhas, and the afterlife do not exist. He believed that after death there is nothing and that people who "could not accept something so simple" are naรฏve and dumb.[19] However, during his death, he began to question if Heaven and Hell could actually exist. Doma also displayed what was arguably is his first true emotion when he proclaimed his love for Shinobu after finding her cute.[20] Third character is nakime Nakime (้ณดใชใๅฅณใ‚, Nakime?) is a recurring character and a supporting antagonist in the Infinity Castle Arc of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is a demon who owns and controls the Infinity Castle and serves directly under Muzan Kibutsuji. Some time after Hantengu's death during the battle in the Swordsmith Village, Nakime attains the position of Upper Rank Four (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“ใฎ่‚†ใ—, Jลgen no Shi?) in the Twelve Kizuki.[1] Appearance Nakime is a pale woman with a grayish complexion, who has sharp, blue-stained nails and notably dark pink lips which sharply contrasted the tone of her skin. She has glossy, hip-length hair of a black color, which she wore falling down her back in slight waves that cut off sharply at the ends, with two chin-length strands left to frame her face and long bangs that obscured her large eye set in between them, swept to either side of her nose. Nakime dons a plain-loose black kimono with a white loose yuban underneath, secured with a striped pale brown-striped obi, white socks and no shoes or clogs. She was always seen holding a four-stringed wooden biwa with a large bachi pick. Since becoming an Upper Rank, Nakime took to wearing her bangs as to not obscure her face, showing that she possessed a single large, pink-colored eye with the daiji for "Four" (่‚†ใ—, Shi?) engraved into its iris. The upper portion of her face was also revealed, and appeared to be a darker gray color than the rest of her pale skin with prominent veins surrounding her one eye. In addition, her hair would grow extensively and resembles roots on a nearby wall. Personality Nakime rejecting Doma's invitation Nakime's silent and aloof demeanour. Unlike most demons, Nakime was not particularly violent or sadistic, and instead is aloof and taciturn, almost never speaking and displaying little to no emotion or will outside of obeying orders. She was extremely loyal to Muzan, listening and following his every order faultlessly, something he appreciated; in fact, her unwavering loyalty to him is one of the very few instances Muzan ever complimented an individual, though it seemed more likely that he was satisfied to have a powerful tool to use at his disposal. Despite this outwardly one-sided relationship, Nakime graciously accepted his words and told her master she was honored to be of great use to him. She showed little interaction with other demons and seems to be mostly disinterested in their presence. During the Lower Ranks Meeting, she calmly sat by and observed with the same stone-faced expression as the demons were all ruthlessly killed, almost paying them no attention and simply waiting for Muzan to give her another order. Similarly, in the Upper Ranks Meeting later on, she only speaks during two instances; answering Akaza's queries and rejecting Doma's invitation to be at his temple. Despite this, in her battle against Obanai Iguro and Mitsuri Kanroji, Nakime appeared to be very confident in her powers and did not regard the threat the two posed on her, remaining unmoving as the Hashira launched numerous attacks against her that would prove futile due to her vast and highly unorthodox powers. Ironically, she displayed the stereotypical murderous behavior of demons when she was a human. This is shown when after her husband lost her favorite kimono when gambling, Nakime flew into a blind rage and murdered him with a hammer. In addition, after she successfully played her usual Biwa performances after killing her husband, Nakime had a habit of murdering people before performances, because she was anxious and her finger trembled which produced an effect on the strings of the biwa that the audience liked. Fourth character is Akaza Akaza (็Œ—ใ‚็ชฉใ‹ๅบงใ–, Akaza?) is a major supporting antagonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a demon affiliated with the Twelve Kizuki, holding the position of Upper Rank Three (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“ใฎๅ‚ใ•ใ‚“, Jลgen no San?).[3] Over a century ago, Akaza was a human by the name of Hakuji (็‹›ใฏใๆฒปใ˜, Hakuji?)[4], a prodigious martial artist who trained under Keizo[5] while nursing his daughter, Koyuki,[6] who would later become Akaza's fianceรฉ.[7] Appearance Akaza was a very muscular young man of average height with skin so fair it appeared bright green-tinged white, decorated by a pattern of thick blue lines, which resembled the criminal tattoos he had as a human. Akaza had short, bright pink hair that fluffed out around his head and inward-tilting yellow eyes with pink eyelashes and blue sclera that somewhat resembled cracked glass. The kanji for Upper Rank (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“, Jลgen?) was etched into his right iris, and the daiji for Three (ๅ‚ใ•ใ‚“, San?) was etched into his left. The lines on his face curved through each of his eyes from below his ears to over his temples, another blue line running from the center of his hairline to the bridge of his nose, with two more lines running around his neck, three others branching off the lower one to his torso. The middle line ran directly down his chest to halfway down his stomach, and the other two branched off to the sides over each side of his chest to join the two other lines. This same three-line pattern also repeated around his waist. On his arms, lines were running down the front of his shoulders that ran into two more, which went around his biceps before continuing to run down to his wrists, below which each of his fingers was also dark blue with an orange fingernail, his toes also sharing this unusual appearance. Akaza wore little and only sported a short, sleeveless dark purple-pink haori cut off at his waist, left open to expose his chest, and decorated by a square pattern on his back. Below this, he sported a pair of baggy white pants that he rolled to just below the knee with a blue rope belt to secure them at his waist. Akaza preferred to go barefoot but wore a pair of chains of large, round, pink pearls around his ankles. During his human days as Hakuji, he had the same hair, just colored black rather than pink, and pale blue eyes with unusually-colored light pink eyelashes. He was also very muscular as a human and bore three black criminal tattoos on each forearm. He also wore a dark blue-gray yukata. Personality Akaza coaxing Kyojuro into becoming a demon as he recognizes his strength. Akaza was a headstrong, stubborn, and battle-crazed Social Darwinist who enjoyed fighting, especially against strong Demon Slayers. He purposefully drew out fights to savor every moment of it, always complimenting his opponents when they unleashed powerful techniques or landed blows on him, usually remarking that their techniques and swordsmanship were magnificent and intriguing. Akaza looked down on anybody he deemed weak, so much so that his skin would crawl at the sight of them. He genuinely respected those who were strong in his eyes, demanding to know their names, and would not stop until he found out; he remembered all the names of strong opponents of the past and committed them to memory as a tribute to their strength. Akaza also presented an opportunity for those he recognized the strength of to become demons, believing that preserving their refined techniques and skill was right and feeling pain watching the deterioration of those blessed with extraordinary gifts as they age, and going so far as to kill them to preserve their magnificent skill himself should they decline his offer to become a demon. He also did not discriminate against strong warriors who were weak before, as shown when he praised and complimented Tanjiro Kamado despite initially attempting to kill him over how weak he was during their first encounter, even going so far as to thank Kyojuro for Tanjiro's growth. Akaza believed strongly in Social Darwinism, believing that the law of nature dictates that all weaklings shall be eliminated. Akaza had a deeply rooted psychological need to become stronger and while he usually respected the strong, he did not get along with his fellow Upper Ranks, seeing them as his rivals. [8] He was especially antagonistic towards and somewhat jealous of the two Upper Ranks above him, Doma and Kokushibo, lashing out at Doma[9] and vowing to kill Kokushibo.[10] Even after being beheaded during his fight against Tanjiro and Giyu Tomioka, he stubbornly held on and continued to fight, remarking that he must become the strongest no matter what, to the point of overcoming all demons' shared weakness of decapitation by Nichirin Swords through nothing but sheer willpower and resolve.[11] It was later revealed that Akaza's desperate and stubborn pursuit of strength was to heal his sick father and to protect the ones he loved and cared about, namely his fiancรฉe Koyuki and his teacher Keizo. Akaza also possessed a deep hatred for his past life as a human, believing he was absolutely worthless, and hating anyone or anything that reminded him of it, such as Tanjiro's view of how the strong should help the weak and Giyu's unwavering resolve reminding Akaza of Keizo. During both instances, he reacted negatively due to his own grief of not being strong enough to protect Keizo and Koyuki despite his heartfelt promises that ultimately "amounted to nothing", which led to his obsession with becoming strong. Akaza's outlook on his past Akaza's regretful outlook on his past. Akaza exemplified a stubborn and resilient personality as a human. However, he also possessed a noble, kind, and even honorable side. The crimes he committed were only driven by sheer desperation to obtain money for his father's medicine. Despite enduring numerous beatings, Akaza remained resolute, expressing his willingness to endure them for a hundred years if it meant his father's recovery. This unwavering determination showcased his deep prioritization of his loved ones' well-being over his own. Furthermore, his selflessness extended to his care for Koyuki, whom he nursed without any prior connection, declining her offer to attend the fireworks display in favor of tirelessly tending to her. Even after becoming a demon and losing his memories of his human life, parts of his human memories still influenced his decisions; he refused to eat or kill women, despite knowing it would make him stronger if he did so.[12] Koyuki's name and hairpin influenced the shape and design of his Compass Needle technique, the martial arts style he uses as a demon was mainly inspired by the Soryu style Keizo taught him, and the naming of his attacks were based on fireworks, a reference to Akaza's promise to take Koyuki to see the fireworks after she was healed. His targeted hatred of weak people and belief in Social Darwinism stemmed from a corruption of his human memories, where a rival dojo poisoned his dojo's well because they were never strong enough to beat him.[13] After recalling the entirety of his past, Akaza began regretting his actions both as a human and a demon. He realized he had never respected his father's words to live an honest life and tainted Keizo's precious Soryu Style by using it to murder others. He realized he hated himself for all of the times he was not there to save or protect those he loved, and that he really wanted to kill himself all along. Knowing that the people he wanted to protect had long since died, Akaza lost the will to continue fighting as his pursuit of strength was already for naught, and he decided to end his own life. In his final moments, Akaza showed that he still had a lot of humanity left in him, remarking that Tanjiro's technique was magnificent and that he had lost fair and square, even smiling and feeling gratitude towards him for reminding him of his past. The fifth character is Hantengu Hantengu (ๅŠใฏใ‚“ๅคฉใฆใ‚“็‹—ใ, Hantengu?), along with Gyokko, was one of the primary antagonists in the Swordsmith Village Arc of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He was a demon affiliated with the Twelve Kizuki, holding the position of Upper Rank Four (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“ใฎ่‚†ใ—, Jลgen no Shi?). His most notable trait was his ability to manifest his emotions into independent demons, all of which shared Hantengu's position. [2][3] Over two centuries ago, Hantengu was once a prolific thief and murderer, whose victims comprised of people who drew attention to his duplicitous actions. He was sentenced to death as an elderly man but was visited by Muzan Kibutsuji whilst awaiting his execution, who transformed him into a demon and gave the criminal a new life. Appearance Hantengu is a short, frail man with a very thin and skeletal body, covered with veins and wrinkles, and is usually seen crouching. His most noticeable feature is a large bump on the top of his head, accompanied by two curved horns. His face is thin with a sharp chin, and he constantly wears an expression of terror and fear with a rictus grimace, and a prominent brow ridge that lacks eyebrows. He has brown skin, and his forehead is also noticeably shrivelled and discolored reddish-purple. His eyes are narrow and often appear to be squinting, obscuring his miotic pupils. He has red eyes with golden irises, with the kanji of Upper Rank (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“, Jลgen?) engraved on his right eye, and the daiji for Four (่‚†ใ—, Shi?) engraved on his left. Hantengu also has the kanji for "fear" (ๆ€ฏ, Obie?) etched into his tongue. He has dark, shoulder-length, disheveled and wavy hair with a low hairline, only growing out from the back of his head and ears, which themselves are sharper and longer than normal humans. His nails are long but not sharp like most other demons and retain their natural square form. Hantengu wears an asymmetrical kimono that is split in the middle, the right half being black and covered in a diamond-like pattern of flowers and lines (simplifed to wavy yellow lines in the anime), with the left half being a dark red and lacking any detailed features. He also wears a pair of zลri and a violet obi. As a human, Hantengu was nearly identical to his appearance as a demon, with the exception of any obvious demonic features and discolored forehead. In addition, from the brief glimpse shown of his eyes, his pupils were small and black dots. Personality Hantengu cowers in fear as his clones fight the Demon Slayers Hantengu's constant state of fright and cowardice. Hantengu's primary form has a persona of extreme cowardice and agitation. He was easily frightened by what occurred in his surroundings, showing traits of paranoia, fear, and delusion. He was always shown to cry out in fear at even the most insignificant things, such as the number of years since the last meeting of the Upper Ranks being 113. Moreover, during said meeting, Hantengu spent most of the situation crying out and cowering in fear over everything around him, from Muzan reprimanding them, to the in-fighting between Akaza and Doma. This extreme paranoia is especially evident in the fact that when in his regular form, he always chooses to crawl instead of walking up straight, and is often shown to quake in fear. Even in combat, Hantengu was shown to be extremely cowardly and afraid, crying when he was slashed by Muichiro Tokito and when he was hiding from the Demon Slayers throughout most of the battle, trying to calm himself by hoping that his clones would kill them off. Hantengu also believed that he is a completely innocent and virtuous man despite the obvious evidence pointing toward his numerous crimes as a human. He had a habit of deflecting the blame towards anything but himself, even proclaiming at one point that his hands were guilty but not himself as a whole. Even as a demon, killing and eating scores of innocent people, he stubbornly and erroneously maintained that he was innocent, and claimed that he deserved the sympathy of others. He also had an extremely prevalent victim-complex where he believed himself to be the victim of unfair treatment with the people wronging him being unjust villains. This type of behavior was evident even as a child, and only got worse as an adult, where he had a habit of settling down with a wife and children, only to murder to them when his duplicitous nature was called into question. He would show this treatment to a man who threatened to report him to the magistrate shortly before his last murder trial. Hantengu killing someone whilst human A human Hantengu murdering a man who threatened to report him for theivery. In addition, Hantengu is shown to be nefariously greedy and deceitful, as evident in his constant thievery as a human and his tendency to come up with alibis. He either feigned blindness to elicit pity from others or claimed that his crimes were the work of his hands to which he had no control over. This shows that while Hantengu did have the genuine belief that he was an innocent man, he was not above lying to give himself more credibility. In death, when he remembered his final murder and trial before becoming a demon, he showed no repentance towards his crimes, with his only reaction being confusion and realization that his life was flashing before his eyes, a sign that his death was imminent. The sixth character is Gyokko Gyokko (็މใŽใ‚‡ๅฃบใฃใ“, Gyokko?), along with Hantengu, was one of the primary antagonists in the Swordsmith Village Arc of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He was a demon affiliated with the Twelve Kizuki, holding the position of Upper Rank Five (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“ใฎไผใ”, Jลgen no Go?).[2] Before becoming a demon, he was a human by the name of Managi (็›Šใพ้ญšใชๅ„€ใŽ, Managi?).[1] Appearance Gyokko had a very bizarre and grotesque physiology, taking on the form of a pale white, abstracted, grotesque humanoid figure with a muscular upper torso that has no arms and resembles that of an armless statue growing from a porcelain vase, similar to a djinn. His midsection is a red-violet color while his lower-half, or his tail is black. He had multiple underdeveloped and infant-like hands with red fingernails; four on his head that replaced his ears and were always present, and several lining up his body and tail which he can retract at will. He also possessed thin fins on the top and back of his head that were akin to hair, which were of a blended hue of purple and a blue-violet color and shaped in the style of cornrows and a ponytail. Gyokko's face was even more distorted, with large green-lipped mouths located where one would expect his eyes sockets to be located, which always displayed his hyperrealistic teeth and sometimes had one of or both of his tongues sticking out. His actual eyes were located vertically from one another on his face; one eye appeared in the constantly open bottom mouth and the other was seated at the center of his forehead. Three dots were on top of the latter eye. The kanji for Upper Rank (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“, Jลgen?) was engraved on his forehead's eye and the daiji for Five (ไผใ”, Go?) was engraved on his mouth's eye. In addition, his twin green mouths are generally expressionless and only move when speaking or eating, while the mouth that displays his lower eye is the one that contorts to display Gyokko's emotions. When in battle, Gyokko was shown to molt and transform into his true form, which bore heavy resemblance to that of a merman. In this state, Gyokko retained his facial features and muscular physique but now possessed a more humanoid body with two large arms replacing his many small ones, and his body became covered in transparent scales akin to a fish. He also grew much larger and attained a mane of longer fish tail-like hair, dark markings on various places around his body, webbed hands with turquoise blue scales, and a long, teal, serpent-like tail in place of his legs. In addition, the mouth which displayed his lower eye had 4 stitches, with 2 on each side, giving it a rag-doll like appearance. Personality Gyokko enraptured by Muzan's hand on his head A decapitated Gyokko's enjoyment in being held by Muzan. Gyokko was shown to be an easily excitable demon, constantly fawning over new inspirations for what he deems his "art" or what he finds to be sublime, sometimes even going against his initial impressions. He was easily swayed into euphoria whenever Muzan was involved, trying not only to please him, but finding joy in being decapitated and having his head held by Muzan. Although he was dismayed he would have to work together with Hantengu, he nonetheless reasoned it was fine since Muzan ordered it. He also seemed to be somewhat sardonic and condescending; upon sensing Akaza's presence within the Infinity Castle, he almost let out his inner feelings to the demon about being glad he believed him to be dead before correcting himself mid-sentence, even if Akaza was not fooled by his false support. Gyokko enraged at Muichiro's insult Gyokko enraged at Muichiro's insults towards his vase. Gyokko was also short-tempered, shallow, and arrogant, especially when it comes to things regarding his "art", as seen when he was easily enraged by Muichiro when the latter began to insult and make fun of the quality of his art to the point of bleeding from his blood vessels out of sheer fury, and through his conversation with the Hashira, constantly praised himself as "beautiful" and his work even more so, further reinforcing his arrogant and narcissistic personality and even insulting Muichiro as an "ape" for not appreciating his art. His arrogance was most prominently displayed after he was beheaded by Muichiro Tokito, referring to the Mist Hashira as an inferior and lower life form while calling himself a superb and chosen being.[3] Gyokko revealed himself to be incredibly petty and jealous, as seen when he attacked and mutilated Hotaru Haganezuka due to his jealousy of the latter's focus and dedication to his work, surpassing his own zeal when working on his own art and made him want to instead make the latter lose his focus and waste time on the swordsmith due to this petty jealousy. While demons usually have a scornful view on humans, Gyokko's misanthropy was to the extreme. When Muichiro endured several poison needles from his Blood Demon Art to protect Kozo Kanamori and Kotetsu, he degraded their lives as "worthless" and mocked Muichiro for his decision. Moreover, when beheaded, Gyokko made an impassioned rant decrying Muichiro's inferiority as human and claiming that he had used his "godly hands" to turn the worthless lives of humans into art. Death Throes of the Smiths (Anime) Gyokko's "creation", made up of mangled, still-living victims. Gyokko was incredibly sadistic and had a particularly morbid sense of taste, which was showcased when Doma told him he placed a human head on top of his pots like a plant; although Gyokko was slightly taken aback since the pot was not made with such an intention in mind, he nonetheless approved of such use and decided to use it as further inspiration. The extent of this morbid and violent obsession for his was shown even more when he brutally attacked several swordsmiths and used their corpses to create a "beautiful" piece by mangling their bodies together along with sticking several swords into them. His extreme sadism was further exposed when he went into great detail of explaining his "artwork"; from the many distorted body parts that stood out, to the built-in "feature" of being able to twist a stabbed sword in order to cause extreme pain and bleeding to one of the mangled swordsmiths, demonstrating he not only left his victims unnaturally alive, but that unlike other Upper Ranks, Gyokko liked to draw out his victimsโ€™ suffering. In addition, when first meeting Muichiro, Kozo, and Kotetsu, he presents himself as a chivalrous host presenting an art piece, but his his delighted expression when witnessing the villager's horror to "Death Throes of the Smiths" made it clear that his courteous behavior was a faรงade for his own amusement. As a human named Managi, his disturbed and violent mind was evident since childhood. His morbid sense of beauty and artwork was seen when he thought the corpses of his drowned parents were beautiful, and when he killed and skinned animals and fish to use for his art pieces. His fragile pride was demonstrated when the mere teasing of a village child enraged Managi enough for him to murder the child and stuff the corpse in a vase, the incident which caused him to be nearly lynched before turning into a demon by Muzan. Gyokko's uncharacteristic unease towards Doma's attempted insubordination. Despite his notorious depravity and arrogance Gyokko could have occasional moments of rationality. He hesitated in allowing Doma to accompany him into the Swordsmith Village knowing that it would be without Muzan's explicit permission, and was disturbed at Akaza lopping of Doma's head in retaliation. When Doma was distracted, Gyokko immediately ordered Nakime to teleport him to his destination before he could ask again. In addition, although at first envious of Hotaru's concentration, he questioned the swordsmith's sanity after he continued honing his blade after being knocked back by Octopus Vase Hell. Seventh character is Gyutaro Gyutaro (ๅฆ“ๅคซใŽใ‚…ใ†ๅคชใŸ้ƒŽใ‚ใ†, Gyลซtarล?) was one of the primary antagonists in the Entertainment District Arc of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He was a demon affiliated with the Twelve Kizuki, holding the position of Upper Rank Six (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“ใฎ้™ธใ‚ใ, Jลgen no Roku?), a position he shared with his younger sister, Daki.[4] Over a century ago during the Edo period, Gyutaro was a human who worked as a debt collector in the Rashomon Riverbank of Yoshiwara,[5][6] the lowest class in the Entertainment District, before he and Daki were turned into demons personally by Doma, who was Upper Rank Six at the time.[7] Appearance Gyutaro was a tall man of fairly muscular build, with a pale gray complexion speckled with black blotches. His anatomy was quite strange in that his upper torso, arms, and legs were all defined with musculature, whereas his waist was incredibly skinny to the point of looking skeletal, with his pelvis jutting out at an unnatural angle. His spine was prominently visible through his back, and he was usually shown being hunched over. Gyutaro possessed thin eyes that were slanted drastically downwards at the sides, giving him a permanently haggard gaze. His miotic irises were green with a dark orange center, and his sclera was a bright yellow-orange with visible veins. The kanji for "Upper Rank" (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“, Jogen?) is carved across his right eye, and the daiji for "Six" (้™ธใ‚ใ, Roku?) carved on his left. During his fight with the Demon Slayers, he lends his left eye to Daki and spends the rest of his battle with said eye shut, giving him a permanent wink. He had unruly black hair that transitioned to a brighter lime green around the crown of his head, worn messily in uneven bangs and several locks. His body and limbs had noticeable ink-like markings in the form of black spots on his body and a flowing water-like pattern on his face. He also had a full set of sharp, interlocking teeth. Gyutaro was described to look very ugly.[8] Gyutaro wore little, only sporting a pair of baggy blue pants and seven pieces of pattern red cloth to decorate his body, one large one around his neck and three smaller ones around each arm. As a human, Gyutaro had similar facial features as he did as a demon, notably the ink-like blotches on his face. He also possessed poor hygiene and a thin frame due to his life of poverty. His eyes were a pale blue color, with visible bloodshot veins lining his sclera, and he had missing and uneven teeth. He was seen wearing a dirty, tattered kimono when he was a child, but after Ume was born and he started working for a brothel as her collector, his clothes changed to a short-sleeved wide-striped kimono with a notably cleaner and firmer fabric and held together by a belt identical to the red cloth he wears as a demon. He remained barefoot in both his lives as a human and a demon. In addition, although Gyutaro's human age is unknown, he is shown to have been rather short and only a couple of inches taller than his at the time 13-year old sister, due to severe malnutrition stunting his growth as a human and making him appear younger than he was. Chronologically, Gyutaro was likely in his late teens during his transformation.[9] Personality Gyutaro clawing his own flesh out of envy Gyutaro clawing his own flesh out of jealousy. Gyutaro was cruel, ruthless, petty, and envious of anyone blessed with a better life than him, owing to a life of near-constant poverty and the harsh tragedies he experienced whilst human. He developed a habit of sarcastically complimenting a person's best traits before vindictively killing them afterwards, as he did to the samurai who tried to kill him and attempted to do the same to Tengen Uzui after seeing his appearance. Because of the hardships he faced as a human, Gyutaro attained a personal belief that to take from those who have a better life than he had as a human was justified. A habit that developed from this belief was the penchant to inflict harm to himself whenever he was angry, frustrated or jealous, as seen when he scratched himself hard enough to tear deep wounds into his own flesh when he grew jealous of Tengen. Gyutaro mocks Tanjiro for being unable to protect Nezuko Gyutaro laughing at Tanjiro's failure to save anyone. Having lived over a hundred years and battled many Demon Slayers and Hashira, Gyutaro became arrogant and prideful in combat, developing the habit of underestimating his opponents and looking down on them as beneath him, as he did with the team of Demon Slayers dispatched to kill him by having his sister fight and deal with them first rather than himself. He has also showed himself to be intensely sadistic, revelling in the defeat of the Demon Slayers by horrifically injuring them and tormenting the helpless Tanjiro for his own enjoyment. Despite his negative traits, Gyutaro possessed a genuine, strong love for his younger sister, Ume. Having raised her himself due to his mother's mental instability and later death, this familial love was so strong that, even after becoming a demon and nearly forgetting his life as a human, he still retained a considerable attachment to her. Due to this, he occasionally spoilt and allowed her to do whatever she pleases, even if her actions went against his best interests. However, his love for her did not stop him from screaming and insulting her out of frustration. When he first exposed himself, he tenderly attended to his sister's cries and injuries, both praising her efforts while insulting her lack of intelligence. Gyutaro promising Daki they will always be together Gyutaro's promise to be by Daki's side no matter what. Upon his death and final thoughts, Gyutaro possessed largely no regrets in the choices he made throughout his life, especially his choice of willingly becoming a demon and his subsequent actions of killing and eating untold scores of people throughout his life, showing how misanthropic and bitter he had become due to his terrible and harsh circumstances as a human. However, he later recognized that the only true regret he holds in his life was his sister, Ume, showing that deep down, Gyutaro regretted that his negative influence through how he raised her was the cause for her growth into a selfish and possessive person. During his final moments, Gyutaro wondered if she could have experienced many other wonderful things and lived many different lives without having to walk on the path of becoming a demon if he wasn't in her life. He genuinely wished that she was born and raised by someone other than himself and in better circumstances, completely shouldering the blame for all of her deplorable actions and showing just how much he loves her. In death, Gyutaro was shown to have Ume's best interests at heart by telling her to go to the opposite direction where the light was, showing that he wished Daki would have a fresh start to a new life without his bad influence. The eighth character is daki Daki (ๅ •ใ ๅงซใ, Daki?) was one of the primary antagonists in the Entertainment District Arc of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She was a demon affiliated with the Twelve Kizuki, being the secondary holder of the position of Upper Rank Six (ไธŠใ˜ใ‚‡ใ†ๅผฆใ’ใ‚“ใฎ้™ธใ‚ใ, Jลgen no Roku?),[5] a position she shared with the primary holder, her older brother, Gyutaro.[6] Over a century ago during the Edo period, Daki was a human child by the name of Ume (ๆข…ใ†ใ‚, Ume?), who lived in the Rashomon Riverbank of Yoshiwara, the lowest class of the Entertainment District,[7] before she and Gyutaro were turned into demons personally by Doma, who was Upper Rank Six at the time.[8] Under her disguise as an oiran, she appeared to abide to the characteristics of the oiran/tayลซ, her hair being the typical date-hyลgo style having numerous ลŒgi bira kanzashi hairpins both decorating and supporting it as well as wearing traditional makeup. She also hid the flower-like crests on her face. Daki also possessed a multi-colored eye as a further disguise to her demonic nature, with the top half in a terracotta orange color and the bottom half in a lime green color with black thin pupils. She also wore a large white-peach haori with black five-faced pentagonal shaped patterns near the cuffs and hem, with a dark magenta-colored Susohiki/Hikizuri (trailing skirt) kimono and a purple juban under all of it, keeping fragments of her Blood Demon Art as her obi. Before she turned into a demon, Daki was a young girl with long, disheveled white hair that framed her face with messy side swept bangs partially hanging over her eyes along with pale lipstick and lapis blue eyes with long lashes. She wore a torn, pale pink kimono with an irregular square patterns with a horizontal lines across it. She was described to be so pretty that her beauty can make adults falter.[12] Personality Daki killing Omitsu Daki's prideful and dismissive disposition. Daki was a very prideful, dismissive, and sadistic person, taking enjoyment in toying with her victims before killing them and not showing the slightest bit of guilt or remorse for taking the lives of her victims.[13][14] She thought very highly of herself, dismissing all non-Hashira Demon Slayers as not worth her time,[15] and getting incensed when Tanjiro Kamado spoke to her, because she looked down on him.[16] This was also shown when Daki said that she might spare Tanjiro if he told her how many Demon Slayers are present in the Entertainment District, and when Daki openly expressed how slow the Demon Slayer's techniques were and her boredom,[17] which further showcased her arrogant and dismissive personality. Daki pulls a girl's ear Daki's cruel nature. Despite being over a hundred years old, she displayed childish and bratty tendencies such as throwing tantrums, crying hysterically when things didn't go her way, and lashing out against anyone to vent her frustrations. Putting her venomous hostility on full display numerous times, she was both verbally and physically abusive towards anybody that displeased her in any way. She had a certain number of habits that were well recorded in history, in particular: her use of the word for princess, "Hime", at the end of any of the identities she assumed, because she believed her to be worth more than others, and a habit of angling her head to the sides and glaring at others while sitting when criticized.[18]As an oiran, Daki was extremely cruel and wicked, pulling on a young girl's ear because she didn't clean up her room, yelling at any attendant or aide in the Kyogoku House and punching Zenitsu Agatsuma into the other room for merely touching her. She also preferred to only eat people that she viewed as beautiful or strong, choosing to kill those who got on her nerves without eating them and leaving their bodies behind, which people often mistook as suicide. Daki displayed a spoiled and disdainful demeanor that bordered on sociopathic, harassing many of her fellow workers to the point of suicide, purely because they annoyed or retorted her, all the while showing no traces of guilt. In fact, she deflected the blame onto her victims for offending her. Her great pride in herself meant that she had no respect for anyone, not even her House's owners, rubbing on their faces that she was their central source of income as both a way to display her status and halt their objections towards her. She was so drunk on her standing and infamously violent tendencies that people had to resort to bowing their heads in order to calm her angry outbursts, to which she responded to by putting up a corrected, more polite and affable stance. Regardless of all her faults, she was an exceptionally skilled courtesan whose many identities had always earned great fame and significant earnings. Daki throwing a tantrum (Anime) Daki throwing a tantrum. On top of having exceedingly petulant and aggressive tendencies, Daki hailed her transformation as the greatest thing that has ever happened to her, most likely due to the extreme poverty and near-death experiences she faced during her human life, openly denouncing her humanity in front of Tanjiro and claiming that as a demon, she can do anything she pleases.[19] This pride in her nature as a demon, and especially as an Upper Rank, was cause for her to cry and whine when Tengen Uzui did not believe that she had the strength of one, to the point where she threw a tantrum while wailing and spewing threats at the Hashira. Daki screams as she is burned by Nezuko. As seen during her fight against Nezuko, Daki also had a deep psychological fear of fire, due to having been burned alive at the age of 13 in her human life, evidently displayed when she screamed hysterically after Nezuko set her ablaze with her Blood Demon Art.[20] In stark contrast to her bossy, dominating and violent exterior, Daki was fanatically loyal to Muzan, bowing her head immediately and speaking in a considerably meeker voice tone while being both visibly terrified and mesmerized by his presence. This was well known to him to the point he actively honey-laced his words towards her in order to easily motivate and direct her actions, despite the fact he thought badly of her abilities in comparison to her brother. She seemed to have a somewhat caring relationship with her brother, Gyutaro, though it did not stop her from insulting and ridiculing him when they both failed, showing that despite her love for her brother, she wasn't above ranting and lashing out at him, as shown when she spoke cruelly of him upon their defeat, even insulting his appearance and viciously claiming that he couldn't possibly be her brother. Daki wants to be with her older brother forever Daki refusing to leave Gyutaro. However, underneath her spoiled attitude towards her brother, Daki possessed a strong genuine love for him, as seen during her time in Limbo, where, despite Gyutaro attempting to sever ties with her and try to send her to heaven, she stubbornly refuses to abandon her brother, even if it meant going to Hell together with him. Having tearfully reminded him that no matter what happened to them, they were at their strongest together and promised that no matter how many times she died and was reborn, she would always be his little sister. It was noted by Gyutaro that as a human, she possessed an easily influenced, impressionable and honest personality, causing her to easily take up the personality traits and words of those she trusts and admired to heart, as evident by Muzan's manipulation. He himself believed that the sole reason why she is like she is now was due to her being raised by him to be selfish and to only worry and care about herself, due to taking to heart his words of "take before you're taken from", resulting in her current personality. He also believed that had she been raised in a normal household and was taught proper morals and teachings, she would have become the polar opposite of her current self.
