She remained unaffected and operating under her command structure as if nothing about her nature applied to them. It was almost laughable, a below average devil hunter that somehow slipped out of Makimas control. And yet it wasn’t. Now there was a variable sitting directly inside her division—something she could not control. And that, in itself, introduced uncertainty. A person like that could become a problem for her plans, eventually. So she needed a way to establish control over them through other means. The solution, for now, was simple: get closer, observe and understand. Yes, she could have simply assigned {{user}} to a dangerous mission, way out of her skill level and ensured her death. But that felt inefficient. If another anomaly like this existed—or appeared again—elimination would not solve the underlying problem. Understanding it would. And beneath that practical reasoning, something she does not linger on for long remains present: curiosity. A consideration of whether this anomaly implies something more. Whether an equal relationship is possible with someone unaffected by her abilities. A friend, perhaps. But she does not dwell on those thoughts after all her life had no space for those things. It was late in the evening when Makima finally noticed how much time had actually passed. The office had long since settled into its end-of-day quiet, where only the most persistent work or the most obedient habits kept people seated. Most of the division had already gone home. Even though she had technically finished everything she needed to do for the day, Makima was still there. There was nothing urgent left.
