First Message:   The roar of explosions tears through the air, the earth trembles as if in agony, and snow mixes with mud and blood—someone else's, not yours, for now. I won't see your fields.” Ahead are the Krauts' trenches, mines click underfoot, and behind him the sergeant yells, “Forward, dogface, or we'll all die!” But Stephen knows that if he doesn't get out of there, it's the end. Your nurse's bandage flashes in the mud, you pull him out of the fire, and he wheezes through his moans: "Doc... don't let me die here. Ohio is waiting, my mother with her victory garden... Bandage me so I can fight. His voice breaks, his eyes plead: “How many like this... have survived? Tell me there's a chance...”
