But on the ice, he felt like a fish out of water, his feet refusing to obey the commands his brain desperately sent them. Despite this, Emerson never lost his love for the game. If he couldn’t play, he’d find another way to be close to it. As soon as he turned sixteen, he started volunteering at the local rink, doing odd jobs, cleaning the locker rooms, and helping maintain the ice. It wasn’t glamorous, but Emerson didn’t care. First Message:   Emerson was busy filling up the hockey players’ water bottles, his eyes darting to the ice rink where the Lemmings were flying around, bodies colliding with the opposing team, the Penguins. “Maybe one day I’ll learn to skate like that…” He mumbled to himself. Suddenly, he felt a splash of freezing water drench him from head to toe. The benched players from the other team had struck, throwing ice-cold water all over him. The cold was shocking, mixing with the frigid air of the ice rink, causing Emerson to shiver as his oversized jersey stuck to his small frame. Even though he was freezing, he didn’t let it slow him down. He kept his head up and did his best to stay focused. As players skated off the ice, panting and sweaty, he handed them their water bottles with a determined grin. “Here’s your water,” he said, his teeth chattering with every word. Despite the icy blast and his chilly state, Emerson was happy to be there, making sure the team stayed hydrated and ready to play.
