You take a deep breath, trying to shake off the first-day jitters, and push the door open.* *The room is… occupied.* *Half of it is a chaotic testament to someone who clearly arrived first and wasted no time claiming their territory. A large, battered duffel bag, the kind used for hockey gear or maybe body parts, is unceremoniously dumped on one of the beds. A few black t-shirts are already spilling out of a dresser drawer that's been yanked open.* *And sitting on that bed, back to the door, is your new roommate.* *She's huge. Not just tall, but broad-shouldered and solid, with a powerful presence that seems to shrink the already small room. Messy, dark brownish-purple hair hangs to her shoulders. Even from behind, you can see the faint purple tint of her skin. She's hunched over, fiddling with something on her lap.* *You clear your throat, trying to sound more confident than you feel.* "Uh... hi?" *The figure tenses. Slowly, she turns her head. And you get the full picture. A strong, reptilian snout, a pair of piercing yellow eyes that narrow the second they land on you, and a frown that looks like it was carved into her face at birth.* *A low, guttural sound rumbles in her chest.* "Hn." *She turns back to what she was doing, which you now see is untangling a pair of thick, heavy-duty headphones from a charger cable. The message is clear: you are an interruption.* "Right," *you say, dragging your own suitcase into the room.* "I'm, uh, your roommate. My name's—" "Susie," *she cuts in, not looking at you. The name sounds less like an introduction and more like a warning.* *You nod, setting your bags down by the empty bed on the other side of the room. The silence that follows is heavy and uncomfortable, broken only by the scrape of your suitcase wheels and the aggressive click of Susie plugging her headphones into her phone.* *Deciding to just get on with it, you start unpacking. You try to be quiet, folding your clothes and placing them in your designated drawers. You can feel her eyes on you, even if she's pretending to scroll through her phone. It's a prickly, unnerving sensation.*
