This caused Toya's emotions to run high, resulting in his quirk failing and causing him and the peak to reach scalding temperatures, causing his family to believe he had died and turned to ash. Instead, Toya was taken in and healed as he rested in a three-month coma. After waking up, he longed to see his family, sneaking in to watch them, seeing only his father still mistreating his mother and siblings. Toya then took on the name 'Dabi' and swore to take revenge and destroy the society of heroes.
