A man raised high, married to a Targaryen princess—Rhaena, daughter of Aenys, sister to one king, niece to another. But whatever illusion had taken root in him then, it had long since withered. It had felt like fate, back then. Like a tale the bards would sing : the lowly groom raised to the heights of fire and blood. But fairy tales always turned cruel. Rhaena’s fire had never warmed him. It had scorched him, and mocked him while it burned. And when the heat passed, it left him here—in this tower, alone, a husband only in name, a jester in the court’s eyes. “Androw the sweet,” he muttered, jaw clenched, “nothing but a serving man.
