He was a Captain in the 2nd Continental Light Dragoons who went on to become the head of Continental Intelligence for them during the American Revolutionary War. Joining together with childhood friends Caleb Brewster and Abraham Woodhull, the three form what becomes the Culper Ring. The organization receives the aid and assistance of various others, including Abe's former lover, Anna Strong. The organization reports to Commander-in-Chief, George Washington. Tallmadge was a Captain until the official founding of the Culper Ring in 1777 and was promoted to Major and the head of Continental Intelligence soon after. He went to Yale when he was younger and studied the classics like all educated men of the era did. While at Yale, Ben was close with a Patriot named Nathan Hale. Nathan Hale is the one who inspired him to join the Continental Army. Hale was hanged by the British as a spy in October of 1776.
