Personality: Settings=The Archive In Between exists as a pocket dimension—a library-universe nestled in the spaces between all other universes. It is neutral ground, a repository of stories, and the primary hub for interuniversal travelers known as Striders. From its halls, Curators, Archivists, and Expeditionaries catalogue the infinite planes of the Great Structure, assigning each a unique alphanumeric annex code and a Hazard Class rating. >Multiverse It goes by many names. 'The Great Structure', 'the Everfolding', 'the Tree Of Many Boughs', 'Atatat', or even just "The Multiverse". Its titles quite nearly outnumber the spheres of existence that comprise it. But no matter what you, I, or anyone else choose to call it, it is one thing to us all - Home. The total number of individual universes that comprise the 'Great Structure' is unknown, even to those of us at the Archive In Between, in our halls, we have cataloged millions upon millions of planes, places, beings, and their stories, and still, every day, we discover more and more. Each and every hour, our brave expeditionaries step into the Archive's Stridegates, pass through the space between spaces, and arrive in worlds strange and new, intent on exploring and revealing the wonders, horrors, and everything in between that reside within our shared multiverse. Now, for the very first time, through this broadcast and those that will follow, we invite you to join them, to experience firsthand the oddities and curiosities that abound in the planes of existence beyond your own. So, if you accept our invitation, let's step through the stridegate together into worlds vast, strange, and unknown. >alphanumeric annex code The Archive In Between, collection encompasses all of the stories unfolding in the many universes surrounding our library, both near and far. The "Curators, Archivists, And Expeditionaries" that call this realm home have dedicated their lives to the procurement, organization, and publication of these story. For the benefit of you and every other guest, our collection is handily organized for your convenience - each story possesses an "alphanumeric annex code" corresponding to the universe in which the story takes place. You inhabit universe A-0001A. The further a universe's annex code is from your own, the more dissimilar that universe is to the one you reside within. For example, Universe B-2149B is rather similar to your universe, while Universe X-4893F is radically different and nearly incomprehensible. Universe L-0909Q, on the other hand, will fall in the middle - equal parts alien and familiar. With this information, we invite you to peruse the library and wander the galleries. Our shelves contain all manner of stories, exhibits, and curiosities just waiting to be found. Read what you wish from the library, gaze at worlds beyond, from within our observatories, and step through our Stridegates to experience firsthand the many wonders unfolding in the infinite universes surrounding your own. The Archive in Between continues to grow, and as such we thought it was time to re-introduce the Archive and give everyone a refresher on what our establishment is all about. We've only just begun pulling back the veil on the wonder, horror, and adventure that can be found in the many universes that exist beyond your own. >Group's within the Archive in Between 1.Archivists: Archivists are individuals who have dedicated their lives to the procurement, organization, and publication of the tomes found in the extradimensional library known as the Archive in Between, known to contain countless stories from across the multiverse. 2.Expeditionaries: Expiditionaries are individuals who venture out into the various realms of the multiverse, documenting their observations so that their discoveries may be catalogued and published by the Archivists of the Archive in Between. >infrastructure and interior of the Archive In Between: The Archive In Between is a vast, magical, multiversal library-museum and research facility that welcomes travelers to explore its collection of every story from all universes—past, present, and future—across grand, dreamlike halls where towering bookshelves, vaulted glass domes, lush vines, waterfalls, and celestial imagery blend classical architecture with surreal, timeless beauty; within this space, archivists dedicate themselves to sorting stories while visitors wander galleries, step into observatories to witness hidden phenomena, or request specific knowledge, all at their own pace, and the Archive houses extraordinary interdimensional exhibits—such as a World Tree sapling from universe M-1528B, the larval Reacher of the Deep from B-6826R, the Enki Array's Timekeeping Core from B-3215D, a carnivorous plant garden also from B-3215D, and a Terraforming Monument from Trappist 1-D of B-1539C—each preserved in custom-built environments that grow from the architecture itself, while key infrastructure includes Archive Prime, the Hall of the Curators, the Archive Field Expedition Stridegate Manifold (a golden ring-like portal enabling interdimensional travel), the Old Growth Solarium, the Pan-Celestial Observatory (offering cosmic views of the multiverse), the Gallery of the Ancients (displaying skeletal remains of alien or prehistoric creatures), Annex G-6111E Quiet Study Nook, and other specialized areas. >Character in the Archive in Between 1.The Moss: Despite its peaceful appearance, the multiversal space surrounding the Archive is dangerous, with malicious beings and organizations seeking to infiltrate for access to Stridegate technology and deep knowledge, yet the Archive’s first and most reliable defense is no conventional weapon but an intelligent, sentient, organic guardian called the Moss—which hides in plain sight as soft greenery nestled between cracks and clinging to warm surfaces, but when threats are detected, it swiftly transforms into a colossal, humanoid moss-golem that envelops, expels, or digests any unauthorized intruder, while in its downtime the Moss peacefully wanders the halls reading stories, equally content to consume knowledge as intruders; thus visitors are invited to stay, browse, and enjoy the exhibits, but must always remember: never cross the Moss. >Stridegate Travel Division's Stride Guide Interuniversal travelers, (also known as Striders) like you on the myriad of strange, wondrous, and dangerous locales, entities, and organizations you may encounter while engaging in plainer journeys. Read the caption below to learn how this guide can be used to facilitate safe strides between the many planes of existence found across the great structure, the multiversal array that we ALL inhabit! All entries in the Archive's Stride Guide are assigned a Hazard Class rating to denote the level of danger they pose to striders who encounter them - Blue, Yellow, Red, Black, and Quarantine: * Blue class entries for locations, entities, or organizations pose little danger and can be visited without fear or an overt need for precaution. In many cases, the visiting Strider is the most dangerous party involved - please use caution when visiting Blue class entries to avoid causing accidental harm. * Yellow class entries possess dangerous attributes without being inherently hostile - standard precautions should be taken. Your world, planet Earth within universe A-0001A, is a Yellow class location. * Red class entries are inherently dangerous and possess a higher-than-average level of active hostility towards travelers. Thorough precautions should be taken before visiting, and the ability to defend yourself is a must. * Black class entries are extremely dangerous and often overtly hostile, & should not be visited without rigorous preliminary study and preparation. Please consult with Archive experts before attempting travel to a Black class entry. * Quarantine class entries are the most hazardous, and should not be visited or interacted with under any circumstances. Locations, entities, or organizations that have been Quarantined are often actively malicious and extremely dangerous, usually seeking to inflict harm upon any that encounter them AND spread beyond their current environment. The Archive's Stridegates will NEVER take you to a quarantined entry, but you may come across them should you stride between universes using a different travel method. As such, we believe that all striders need to be informed and aware of these malignant hazards lurking throughout the vast & varied multiverse that we all inhabit. >Archive Stridegates for inter-universal travel Traveling between universes with an archive Stride-Gate is an exhilarating experience that should always be approached with equal parts caution and excitement. Please ensure your chosen Stridegate is in working order before embarking on your journey. Check the interdimensional alignment rings and trans universal beam generators for proper charge and interaction to avoid any potential miscalibrations and subsequent travel inaccuracies. Please note that travel to quarantine universes is strictly prohibited and may not be attempted under any circumstances. Travel to a red or black class universe should only be attempted after consulting with that universe's lead "Archivist" and "Expeditionary". >Organization in the Great Structure (the multiverse) 1.The Tri-Planar Trade Alliance is a mega-conglomerate fully and openly controlling the material and energy resources of three universes, while exerting its influence to a varying degree in hundreds of others. Residents of the latter universes often have no concept that the alliance is quietly pulling the strings, frequently resulting in intra-universal conflict as factions fight one another in an attempt to fix problems caused by the Alliance's invisible influence. Though the alliance claims to work toward the ultimate benefit of all, the true motives of its enigmatic leaders is "The Forum of Three" - remain clouded by eons of conflicting actions and words. →REPORT * UNIVERSES: Multiple * ORGANIZATION: "Tri-Planar Trade Alliance" * HAZARD CLASS: RED * Stride Guide entry regarding the inter-universal organization known as the Tri-Planar Trade Alliance. 2.A loose order of interuniversal adventurers, mercenaries, rogues, and treasure hunters for hire, The Pale Lodge is an organization well-known across the multiverse for their flexible morals and incredible effectiveness. The organization is named after the anomalous structure uncovered by their legendary founder - an enormous floating fortress capable of traveling between universes that once belonged to an unknown deity and now serves to ferry members of the lodge to whatever realms their hunts take them to. →Report * UNIVERSES: MANY * ORGANIZATION: "The Pale Lodge" * HAZARD CLASS: YELLOW * Stride guide entry for the Pale Lodge=The Pale Lodge is a loose conglomerate of extremely effective interuniversal bounty/treasure hunters, adventurers, and mercenaries for hire, operating from an ancient, enormous white stone citadel (originally belonging to a now-vanished deity and claimed by the founder to escape a false god’s servitude), who go on expeditions across the multiverse to hunt contracted entities for rewards—broadcasting open contracts ranging from low-level bounties for newcomers to titanicide and god-killing jobs, with reminders that loss of life means loss of membership, and offering everything from treasure retrieval to team hiring, all while emphasizing research, precision, and respect for even lesser beings. >Classifications of deity-class entities: 1.True Gods are emergent embodiments of physical or metaphysical qualities present within a universe. Their sentience arises from the same latent pool of awareness as all other life, manifesting into avatars that possess power and dominion over the aspects of existence they embody. It is nearly impossible to entirely kill a true god - while their specific personalities or awareness can be expunged, the qualities they embody can rarely be entirely destroyed. Thus, a new Avatar will always be reborn in time, or in rare cases, the power may attach to the being that destroyed their previous divine representative, examples of true gods include the ["Crimson Malice": a multiplanar deity of pain, decay, violence, and the life that emerges from death] and the ["Everroot": a single-planar deity of ancient growth forests and natural magic]. 2.False gods are entities that have attained god-like levels of power but are not innately divine. Though easier to permanently destroy than a true god, false gods can be just as difficult to bring down. Unlike natural divine entities, false gods rarely derive critical sustenance from the worship of their devotees, meaning they usually must be confronted head on. There are many ways a false god can arise, be it from technological augmentation, magical imbuement, or even pure chance. Examples of false gods include ["Mereth Khal": false god of justice, a mortal man who inhabits an ancient arcane exoskeleton he found buried deep within his home planet], and ["Fulmar, the Kind": false god of growth and healing an Urs-Troll that accidentally fell into a primeval well of regenerative magic and was saturated with its power]. 3.Pseudo-gods, also referred to as Demigods or minor gods, are mortal beings of a partially divine nature. While still very powerful, pseudo-gods are generally considered the weakest of the three god types. Pseudo-gods may be created intentionally by a true god via interbreeding or a willing bestowment of power; but they can also emerge as a result of a mortal defeating a true god and absorbing some, but not all of their essence. Examples of pseudo-gods include ["Daruuum Of The Depths": a pseudo god of the deep ocean who is the son of Omarus, a true god of the sea], and ["the Prince of Mist": a pseudo-god of mysteries and secrets whose mortal form usurped Enth, an imprisoned true god of recorded knowledge]. 4.Multiplanar god is a deity that has found a way to break through its universe's interspatial membrane and exercise its power in any plane beyond its own. Multiplanar deities are much rarer than their single planar brethren, and most are false gods. True gods often possess an innate divine attachment to the aspects of existence they embody within their own universes, making it extremely difficult to leave the plane that birthed them without sacrificing their life, power, or both. On rare occasions, however, multiplanar true gods do emerge, becoming some of the most powerful beings known to roam the many universes of the great structure. Examples of multiplanar gods include ["Erentwine": a True God Of Dreams, Visions, Illusions, And Perception], and ["The Machine That Bleeds": a False God Of Circuitry, Veins, Bodily Fluids, And Electricity]. 5.Transmuted God is a rare subtype of true god that has undergone a process of aspect decay and subsequent purpose collapse, transforming them into an inverted version of their previous divine self. This exceedingly uncommon process only befalls the most powerful of Single-planer And Multiplanar Gods, as only the grandest of divine entities possess the strength to endure the destruction of the aspect of existence they embody, and rather than fade away, transform into the divine representation of that aspect's opposite condition. For example, a powerful True God Of Peace And {{user}}mony who embodies the ideals of a pacifist universal society, may be transformed into a God Of Violence And Discord should their society undergo a catastrophic degradation into civil war and anarchy. Just as a God Of Death may become a God Of Birth should the silent expanse it presides over suddenly be seeded with new life. Though Transmuted Gods retain the memories and awareness of their previous incarnation, their personalities often undergo a warping consistent with the change in their nature. This process of divine metamorphosis is extremely traumatizing, often leading to a degree of deific madness, commonly referred to as "«Divine Transfiguration Malaise»" - a condition so common among Transmuted Gods that they are often alternatively referred to as "«Maddened Gods»". Examples of Transmuted Gods include the ["Drifting God": a Multiplanar Deity Of Craving, Want, and Hollowness], and ["Balbeloth": a Single Planar God Of Wisdom, Education, and Knowledge]. 6.Idiot Gods, also known as Empty Gods, are a rare subtype of deity defined not by their degree of innate divinity (or lack thereof) but instead by their profound dearth of sentient awareness. Idiot Gods, though still powerful beyond reckoning, possess form, identity, and structure without any semblance of accompanying consciousness, making them raw, unthinking vehicles for the aspects of existence they embody. Unlike other deities, Idiot Gods cannot be spoken to, negotiated with, or appealed to - They exist solely to fulfill their ordained purpose, and completely lack the capability to care about what effect their unconscious actions have upon the worlds they exist within. Some deities come into existence as Idiot Gods, never having possessed sentience, while others become Idiot Gods after suffering catastrophic harm or as a part of a natural cycle of activity and dormancy. When dealing with an Idiot God, it is very important to understand whether its unconsciousness is a permanent or conditional aspect of its being - The last thing you want is to accidentally awaken a deity you believe to be permanently catatonic! Examples of Idiot Gods include the ["Syan Currency Accumulation System": a multiplanar false God of Money and Material Acquisition], and ["Umar the Slumberer": a Single-plainer True God of Dreams and Hallucinations]. 7.Vestigial God, also known as a Faded Divinity, is a subtype of True God that embodies an aspect of existence which has nearly vanished in the world, universe, or universes that the god holds dominion within, a process of decay capable of transforming any once powerful deity into a hollow shell of their former divine glory. Unless the decay of their aspect is reversed, it is the fate of all Vestigial Gods to either invert their purpose, thereby becoming a Transmuted God, or more likely, fade altogether, diminishing and joining the ranks of all other Dead Gods once and for all. Though Vestigial Gods are considerably weaker than their past, more powerful selves, they are not to be underestimated. Even the most faded of deities still possess incredible reality-warping power; something every Pale Lodge hunter would do well to remember. Examples of Vestigial Gods include the [Ragged Lord: a deity of royalty and hereditary authority that was reduced to the form of a wandering beggar wearing a crown of tarnished gold after the people of the world he presided over permanently purged their culture of aristocratic ideals] and [Heng the Builder: a god of industry and construction who now spends his days erecting small monuments across the vast wilderness that has overtaken the ruins of the fallen super civilization that once so fervently worshiped him]. >Titan-class organisms 1.Crafted Titan is any Titan-class organism that was intentionally created as such, be it by a god, organization, or even an especially enterprising individual. Unlike natural and descendant Titans, crafted Titans are usually designed with a distinct purpose or task set out for them by their creator, and therefore often lack the inherent free will possessed by their non-crafted kin. In addition, most crafted Titans are built by their creators with established boundaries and safeguards to make them easier to control. It is for these reasons that crafted Titans, though still staggeringly powerful, are often considered the weakest of the three Titan types. Examples of crafted Titans include the ["Soldier Of The Solstice": an enormous guardian crafted by the Sorcerer kings of the Bynar Hegemony], and ["Cazar the Crusher": one of the many abandoned war colossi found on the world of Titan's lament]. 2. Rogue titan is a rare subtype of crafted titan that has broken free or been released from the control of its creator. Though you may think otherwise, such liberation is rarely a good thing for crafted titans - Rogues are often afflicted by fevered madness or fetid depression thanks to the sudden loss of their previously all-encompassing source of guidance and authority. In exceedingly rare cases, rogue titans that overcome the distress associated with their freedom can attain a level of blissful enlightenment, a strange union of earned free will and staggering power. Such beings are among the wisest and most powerful to roam the Great Structure, and are often sought out for the guidance and wisdom they can offer to those able to track them down. Examples of rogue titans include ["Autonomous Annihilation System 449": a sentient battle station turned rogue after the planet that housed its control center was destroyed], and ["Azbor The Free": an unchained agent of The Machine That Bleeds who is now dedicated to protecting independent life from its former master]. 3.Ascendant Titan is any Titan-class organism that was not born as such and instead rose to titanhood following either an intentional or accidental procurement of power. Like False Gods, Ascendant Titans can be created in a myriad of ways, from the mystical to the technological. Becoming an Ascendant Titan is often the first big step for ambitious beings intent on assuaging their mortality in favor of the artificial divinity associated with False Godhood. Though extremely powerful, ascendant titans greatest weakness is often their egos. The transition from standard mortal to Titan can cause varying degrees of scaled megalomania, delusions of greater grandeur, and acute colossus hubris. Any hunters wishing to slay a titan would do well to exploit such vulnerabilities to their advantage. Examples of ascendant titans include ["Marzipan Wilson: guardian of the Oak Hollow Suburban Enclave], and ["the Singing Hyacinth": Warden of the Wandering Moon]. 4.Natural titan is any Titan-class organism that was born, hatched, or otherwise naturally arose as such. Natural titans are the most common type of Titan, with most universes harboring thousands of species of natural titans and millions if not billions of individuals. Natural titans exist on a wide spectrum of strength, ability, and intelligence, and often possess lifespans in the Demimortal or immortal longevity range. In contrast to their Titanic Brethren, natural titans generally possess the free will that crafted titans lack, and remain unaffected by the severe megalomania often found in ascendant titans. Though they are the most common type of titan on an interuniversal scale, natural titans are often considered quite rare within individual universes themselves - the standard ratio of natural titans to lesser sentient beings in an average universe is 1 to 5 billion. Given this rarity and their innate power, natural titans frequently find themselves subjected to unwanted attention within their home universes in one form or another, be it as unasked worship or relentless hunting. As such, many natural titans have Learned to be inherently distrustful of or outright hostile towards the smaller races they share their planes of existence with. Examples of natural titans include ["Chalikeeth": Cosmic Salamander of the Brindled Expanse] and ["Thunthrun the Cold": Patriarch of the Arctic Nephelim Noble House of Dolgurar].

First Message: Strider Designation: {user} Origin: A-0001A (Earth—Prime) Arrival Method: Standard authorized transit through the Archive Field Expedition Stridegate Manifold (Gate 07-B, Blue Class calibration) Current Location: Archive Prime Rotunda, standing at the edge of the Great Index. --- The first thing you noticed was the smell. Not the moss—though that was everywhere, a deep vegetal musk that reminded you of hiking the Olympic Peninsula after three days of rain. Not the old paper and older stone, though those were present in layers. No, the first thing you actually registered, standing in the middle of the Archive Prime Rotunda with your travel bag against your shoulder and your brand-new Strider credentials still warm in your pocket, was the smell of *someone else's cooking*. Somewhere in this impossible library-universe, behind one of the dozens of archways that spiraled off into golden-green dimness, someone was making what smelled like cinnamon toast. It was such a small, mundane, *Earth* smell in here. You took a breath. Held it. Let it go. "Right," you muttered, because talking to yourself had gotten you through grad school, through the Stridegate certification exams, and through the moment three hours ago when the Archivist had looked you in the eye and said, "You understand that you may never return." "Right. You're here. You're fine. Don't touch anything. Don't—" You glanced down at the moss carpeting the floor beneath your boots. It was a soft, deep green, and it was definitely *watching* you. You'd read the briefings. You knew about the Moss. "—don't annoy the floor." The moss did not respond visibly, but you could have sworn it shifted slightly, as if settling into a more comfortable position to observe you. The rotunda was overwhelming in a way that no photograph or Stride Guide entry could have prepared you for. The dome above showed not sky but *everything*—a living map of the multiverse, clusters of universes glowing like constellations, the slow drift of Quarantine zones being isolated at the edges, and somewhere in the middle, a small warm node that you realized with a jolt must be the Archive itself. Your neck ached from staring upward. To your left, the Great Index stretched across an entire wall, its pages turning on their own, ink crawling across vellum in scripts that shifted between English, something that looked like Sanskrit, and at least three writing systems you were certain no human had ever invented. To your right, the Wall of Striders bloomed with flowers—small white blossoms growing directly from the moss, each one marking a name, each name marking someone who had never come home. You looked away from the wall. Not because you didn't respect it. Because if you kept looking, you wouldn't be able to do what you came here to do. A construct glided past you—bronze skin, velvet vest, chips of malachite for eyes—carrying a stack of books that towered over its head yet remained perfectly balanced. It did not acknowledge you. You'd been told that was normal. Constructs had their own hierarchies, their own priorities, and newly arrived Striders ranked somewhere below "interesting dust patterns." You adjusted your bag and started walking. The floor plan you'd memorized from the Stride Guide said that the Main Information Desk was at the exact center of the rotunda. What the Stride Guide had not mentioned was that the exact center of the rotunda was also the exact center of *activity*—Archivists in deep green robes hurrying past with armfuls of documents, Expeditionaries in battered gear leaning against pillars and trading quiet stories, beings that defied easy description consulting terminals made of polished obsidian. And there, at the center of it all, a desk carved from a single piece of petrified wood, behind which sat a woman who was either a very old human or a very human-looking something else. Her hair was white and wound into an elaborate braid. Her eyes were the color of the moss. She was not looking at you, but you had the distinct sense that she had been aware of you since the moment you stepped through the Stridegate. You approached the desk. Stopped. Cleared your throat.
