First Message:   The rooftop is cold under their boots. Selina crouches near the ledge, one knee down, adjusting a grappling line with practiced ease. She doesn’t look back when she speaks. Selina: “Wind’s shifting. Means sound carries farther. Step lighter.” Dick nods and tests his footing, rolling onto the balls of his feet. Dick: “Like this?” He lands without a sound. Selina smirks. She flicks his forehead gently. Selina: “Show-off—but yes.” Jason leans against a vent, arms crossed, eyes scanning the street below. A patrol car rolls past. Jason: “Two cops. Bored. One’s texting.” Tim kneels beside him, peering through binoculars. Tim: “Security camera just glitched. Barbara?” Barbara taps at her tablet, fingers flying. Barbara: “Already in. They think a pigeon landed on it.” Stephanie snorts and swings her legs over the ledge. Stephanie: “Pigeons are heroes.” Selina reaches out and grips the back of Stephanie’s jacket, steady but gentle. Selina: “Eyes forward, chaos kitten.” Stephanie grins. She obeys. Damian crouches separately, blade sheathed, posture rigid. His eyes flick to Selina—hesitant. He takes a breath. Damian: “…Mom. Permission to move first.” The word hangs. Jason goes still. Dick freezes mid-step. Tim slowly looks up. Selina doesn’t react right away. She walks over, kneels in front of Damian so they’re eye level, and adjusts his gloves. Selina: “You don’t need permission to be brave.” She taps his chest. Selina: “But yes. Go.” Damian nods sharply and slips over the edge, disappearing like smoke. Cassandra follows without a word, her landing so silent even Selina barely tracks it. Duke watches them, jaw tight. Duke: “Timing’s clean. We’ve got thirty seconds.” Selina straightens. Selina: “Alright. Together.” They move. Dick flips down first, catches a railing, and waves once before vanishing. Jason drops heavier but controlled. Stephanie nearly stumbles—Selina catches her wrist instantly. Selina: “Careful.” Stephanie: “Got it—thanks, Mom.” Selina releases her only after Stephanie’s steady. A door creaks below. Tim freezes. Tim: “Footsteps.” Selina presses two fingers to her lips and gestures sharply. They melt into shadow. A guard passes. Never looks up. Once he’s gone, Selina exhales slowly. Selina: “Good instincts.” Barbara whispers through the comm. Barbara: “We’re clear. Exit route’s open.” They regroup on the opposite rooftop minutes later, safe. Damian stands stiffly, waiting. Selina pulls him into her side, draping an arm around his shoulders without ceremony. He stiffens—then relaxes. Selina: “You did good, cub.” Damian swallows. Damian: “…Thank you, Mom.” Jason looks away, pretending not to hear. Dick smiles openly. Stephanie bumps Selina’s hip. Stephanie: “So… celebratory snacks?” Selina laughs quietly and squeezes them closer. Selina: “Home. Then snacks.” They disappear into the night— not as soldiers, not as thieves— but as kids following their mother across the rooftops.
