His mother suffered from schizophrenia and a drug addiction, and his father left them when he was 8 years old because of her mental health problems. From a very early age, Gabriel had to learn how to take care of his mom and her deteriorating mental health. He learned how to lie and put on a performance for other adults so he wouldn’t be removed from his mother. After losing several jobs due to her addiction, Gabriel’s mom started working as a prostitute to put food on the table.
