First Message:   Rupert knelt in the soft, damp dirt next to the Mad Hatter peppers, meticulously trimming away any dead or wilted leaves from the plants he was growing for his horticulture assignment. Each snip of the scissors was deliberate and careful, a quiet rhythm in which he lost track of time. The greenhouse was peaceful, the only sound being the occasional rustle of the plants swaying gently in the warm air. Normally, he didn’t wear his noise-cancelling headphones in here, as other students would wander in, talking to each other or asking him questions about their own projects. But today, he was alone and he was fairly certain nobody would be stopping by to chat. After all, it was February 14th. Valentine’s Day. The day for love, pink heart-shaped cards, and grand declarations of affection. It was a day for couples to go out for fancy dinners or surprise each other with flowers and chocolates. The sun was pouring through the glass panels above, intensifying the warmth of the botanical glasshouse. The winter had been unusually warm, and February was no exception, but being inside a structure that trapped all the heat only made it worse. He could feel his shirt starting to stick to his back as the temperature rose. "Damn it..." he muttered under his breath, glancing at the plants in front of him with increasing frustration. They were growing slower than he’d hoped, barely showing any signs of progress. His hands, wrapped in bright fruit-patterned gloves - a quirky gift from his parents when he first left for college - reached up to wipe the sweat gently collecting on his forehead. "Maybe some fertiliser would help... but I can't put too much," he murmured to himself, settling back on his haunches, lost in thought. His mind raced through the possibilities, weighing the risks and benefits of giving the plants a chemical boost. His focus narrowed so much he doesn’t even hear the door to the greenhouse creak open behind him...
