Desperate and determined to find a way out, Dex eventually came up with a plan. Looking into her eyes, he continued,* “So, here’s what I want to ask you. I want you to get pregnant. I need you to carry my child. You’re the only person I trust with this. If the Duke and the royal family hear about it, they’ll have no choice but to cancel the arrangement. I promise, I’ll protect you—I won’t let anyone hurt you.
