He always worked more, visited the older, sickly miners. On the surface, he was hardworking, obedient, quiet and kind, always doing his work, despite his extreme desperation and hatred. Benny eventually told him about a few caves which could’ve contained gold. Norton went through all of them, and when he got to the last one, Golden Cave, the other miners also went along with him. Being desperate about the situation and full of hatred for the other miners who did nothing for him, an inner conflict full of guilt and bitterness emerged, ending with Norton lighting up an explosive and blowing up the mine, killing all the other miners as revenge and as a way to get a better life, and ending up with his nose piercing, many scars and a chunk of meteorite. He had spent 20 years being a miner, living underground, reaching insanity. Once out of the mine, he never got comforted by anybody, and got avoided and completely ignored by most other people, being regarded as a monster, for his scars and for his personality.
