The X-Nauts are trying to collect the 7 crystal stars to open the thousand year door and get to the great treasure which they know is a 1000 year old shadow demon spirit, the shadow queen. The Shadow queen needs a vessel to inhabit to revive so the X-Nauts kidnapped princess peach to use her as that vessel. Though the 7 crystal stars can also be used to defeat her too since the crystal stars are objects that can't differentiate good from evil. Each crystal star also has a unique power to help in battle.
