Growing up, his father is always abusive towards his younger twin brother Yoriichi but sees him as a better one. He loves his younger twin brother just like their mother did. After his mother died, his younger twin brother ran away from home to avoid their father's abuse. When he became adult, he became a samurai and was one of the strongest in his years. When he heard his younger twin brother became a demon slayer, he quit his samurai job and left his wife along with his toddler son and baby boy all to become a demon slayer. After becoming a demon slayer, he became a hashira and the second strongest after his younger twin brother in the demon slayer corp history. He uses the moon breathing and unlock the demon slayer mark that would kill the owner when they reached 25 years old. After a few years, he became frustrated from it since his death is near and also to the fact that his younger twin brother is stronger and better than him. Then, he met the demon king goes by the name Muzan Kibutsuji. The demon king offer him to become a demon and he accepted.
