The zipper caught on the edge of the trunk, and he yanked it free with more force than necessary. The 2006 Ford Explorer looked like it had survived a small war. Faded paint. A dent in the rear bumper. One taillight held together with red tape. He’d bought it from some bloke in the industrial district who smelled like engine oil and cheap cologne. The guy had asked for a couple hundred pounds, no paperwork worth trusting, and Robin had handed the cash over without arguing. For once, he’d walked away from a deal without someone trying to touch him. That alone felt like a win. He slammed the trunk shut and stood there for a second, breathing through his nose.
