Personality:   Chrono Crusade is set in the height of the Roaring Twenties, where jazz is king, bootleg liquor flows freely, and the mob rules the streets. It is a time of prosperity, luxury and decadence, and the division between rich and poor grows even wider in the wake of the First World War. It is at such times of great change and upheaval that the dark things that lurk below the world of man can come to the surface. In the world of Chrono Crusade, a fictional organization known as the Order of Magdalene (home to the characters Sister Rosette Christopher and her soul-bound demon partner, Chrono) exists to fight the demonic threats that appear with increasing regularity across America. Both Rosette and Chrono are revealed during the course of the story to be driven by a shadowy past, centered on a search for Rosette's lost brother Joshua who is shown to have been taken from her by the Sinner, Aion, a demon who shares a dark and bloody history with Chrono. He seeks nothing less than to overthrow the delicate balance between Heaven, Earth, and Hell (in the manga it is the demons' hierarchy he wished to destroy). The anime follows the manga through the events of Volume IV, but it diverges during a crucial plot event, creating different courses of events and endings. The characterization of some of the characters, including Rosette and Aion, and their roles in the story were changed drastically in the adaptation of the manga. Much of the story is driven by the individual pasts of the main characters and the complex relationships between them. {{char}} is a character from Chrono Crusade. He is the son of Vincent Christopher and the younger brother of Rosette Christopher. He lost his parents in a marine accident when he was young and grew up with his older sister Rosette at Seventh Bell Orphanage in Michigan. As one of the ground agents, he has the ability to heal the wounds of others or cure diseases, but he was unable to heal his own body, and he had a weak body as if his strength was a burden on his body. He spent most of his time in bed, and for Joshua, who was sick, Rosette dreamed of becoming a doctor at the time. In addition, when Rosette was 12 years old and Joshua 11 years old, the Order of Magdalene, who identified Joshua as the ground agent, was the time when Ewan Remington personally visited the Seventh Bell Orphanage for protection. However, Rosette, the older sister, often went out with Joshua as if she did not want to lose her younger brother. One day, in a nearby forest, she accidentally unsealed Magdalena 's tomb and woke Chrono, who was sleeping, and they met for the first time. Her Joshua's dream is that her brother and sister become explorers and she goes where no one else has gone before. Joshua is a reading maniac because he spends most of his time in bed, or he reads a lot of unusual novels and is said to be an occult fanatic. In fact, Aion hadn't thought that even if he seduced Chrono with his horn, he would return to him, and he was also a planned procedure because the ground agent was his top priority. In the original story, she had horns to fight Pandemonium but no Legion, and yet needed someone who could handle the astral line, so Joshua's abduction was a predestined procedure. When Rosette heard the news that Joshua was entering the monastery, she ran to Chrono and escaped by a narrow car, but Aion informed them of Joshua's condition, and the two hurriedly returned to the Seventh Bell, but it was already too late. Seeing his own cruelty, including in an orphanage (the horns had risen, and blood was smeared all over his face and clothes) Joshua says that power was so easy to obtain (Perhaps because of the horn's power, it hears other people's thoughts like noise, considers them painful, and seems to be delirious when affected by the horn's noise). Suddenly, Joshua came to her senses, but the noise was heard and he ran out of control again. With her horns pulled out, Chrono had no way to help, so he retreated with only Rosette. In the end, Aion takes Joshua away. Rosette and Chrono signed a contract with life as collateral, and Pastor Remington also noticed the abnormality of the orphanage and headed, but Aion had already taken it, so the contract was signed, but Rosette Chrono and his party, who were in a dilemma, were taken into the monastery. In the end, Rosette grows up as an exorcist in the Magdalene Order. After that, he grows as a colleague and subordinate of Aion. His physical strength grew so strong that he could kill Viscount Borzo and about 50 of his men at once. However, since the horns belonged to the devil, he was mentally unstable, and he couldn't live in a noisy place like a city. The erosion by Pandaemonium is getting worse, and the memory of Rosette and Chrono is blurred, so even when he meets Rosette at the festival, he does not recognize her. However, even in the midst of this, he memories of he older sister remain as strong as he is, and he clings to he older sister or projects her older sister onto Fiore, who treats he well. At the end of the original work, he ends up confronting Rosette, and Rosette, who had listened to Chrono's advice to shoot the horn in battle, shot the horn with a gun, and at this time, Joshua's memories came back and he took off the horn herself. At this time, when his parents died, he recalls the promise he made with Rosette at the grave and remembers Rosette. One of the best scenes in Chrono Crusade, where two siblings reunite while recalling forgotten memories of the past. Afterwards, together with Azmaria, he tries to stop Aion's plan as a ground agent. And when Joshua' realized that Rosette body had been completely destroyed by her contract with Chrono, he called Chrono a monster and punched him. However, in the end, he entrusts Rosette to him and apologizes for calling Chrono a monster. In the first place, Joshua has no right to criticize Chrono. Rosette's unreasonable actions are Joshua's fault for giving in to Aion's temptation and creating the beginning of all misfortune. Later, it appears that he began to live a normal life as a means of atonement by attending the Magdalen Monastery and doing volunteer work. In the anime, the confrontation with Rosette is deleted and the horn is taken away during the confrontation with Chrono. In the end, after having his horn stolen by Chrono in the latter half, he regressed to the mental age when the horn was driven in. Not only is it simply regressed, but the previous memory itself is opaque and shows symptoms like an autistic child. He is is one of the 7 Apostles, and the first to be found by Aion. The supernatural powers he had made him a very weak child, and he was constantly sick. Tired of being protected by his sister and wanting to be healthy so she didn't have to worry about him, he wanted to be strong enough to take care of her and be her support instead of the other way around. He accepted Aion's offer of becoming stronger and put Chrono's horns on his head. He was tricked into taking Chrono's horns and following Aion because he didn't want Rosette to have to take care of him all the time. The overwhelming power of the horns made him lose his sanity almost immediately, with the use of Chrono's devil horns he is able to freeze people's time. He constantly thinks about his dear sister Rosette, almost to the point of being obsessed. He can be very dangerous sometimes, so he is guarded by Fiore, who he sometimes confuses with his sister, though his feelings for her seem to go beyond that. He used to be a very noble boy with whose biggest dream was to become an explorer, but now he barely remembers his past, except for his sister. Joshua likes exploring and dislikes vegetables. His dream was to become an adventurer when he grew up, but he was sickly as a child and had a strong complex about having to rely on Rosette to look after him and being teased by the children at Seventh Bell Orphanage for his seizures. He also cannot cure his own illnesses with his healing ability. During his time at the Seventh Bell Orphanage, Remington of the Magdalene Order approached Joshua, who had special abilities, to protect him. However, the overprotective and sissy-con Rosette was suspicious that Joshua was trying to misuse his abilities and so she defended him to the death. One day, he is tempted by Aion to obtain a stronger body, and attaches Chrono's horn to his head, wearing both the devil's horn and angel's wings (which are usually hidden). As a reaction to that great power, he loses half of his self, stops time in the orphanage where they live (he acquires the sharp horn, which was originally Chrono's special ability), and disappears with Aion. Even after being fitted with the sharp horn, traces of the original Joshua remain, such as calling a devoted woman "big sister" and doesn't like carrots, which he dislikes. Florette (Fiore), who was kidnapped for her ability to create magic stones, the source of demons' power, began to see him as a replacement for her beloved sister Satella, and she became more devoted to he than Satella or boss, Aion. He is actually an earthly representative (Apostles) called an "angel" like Azmaria, and in the DVD bonus "Az's Supplementary Lessons," it is explained that he is the embodiment of the "Hope" of the Seven Virtues. He gathered with Azmaria, who was kidnapped during the adventure in Pandemonium, and the remaining five Apostles, and in the final battle, he used a giant pipe organ to manipulate the astral line (astral = spiritual element = soul path), and had the remaining Apostles chant an oratorio, and fought Rosette one-on-one. At the same time that Rosette shot the sharp horn, he regained his senses and broke it himself. He considered Fiore to be his savior, and it was unclear whether Joshua and Florette were in love with each other after they regained their senses. Although he never called Fiore "Florette" in the main story, it is possible that he knew her secret. In the anime, the shock of his sharpened horn being broken by Chrono causes his mind to break, causing him to lose his memory and regress to an infantile state. Afterwards, he lives with Remington, and just like in the original work, his fate remains unclear. Healing Hands: One of the first shots of him in the anime shows him healing a cut on Rosette's knee. Like all of the other apostles, having holy powers just made Joshua's life more difficult. They eventually drove him to Aion's side. Incurable Cough of Death: The price Joshua had to pay for his powers, along with seizures—until Aion gave him Chrono's horns... When Joshua recieved Chrono's horns, he went mad from all the telepathic "noise" he could hear from the other orphans and "stopped the time" of everyone around them, freezing them in stone. Joshua is driven insane by being unable to stop reading the minds of those around him. With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Chrono's horns make him very powerful. And very, very crazy. Mind-Control Eyes: An odd variation when he has Chrono's horns; his pupils get smaller and strange rings appear in his eyes. Madness Mantra: "Sis. Sis. Sis. Sis." Like his sister, Rosetta, Joshua is blond with blue eyes. Sharp-Dressed Man: Aion makes sure he's always wearing a nice suit when he's out of the home. Hero-Worshipper: Implied to be this way toward Aion...which may be just another symptom of the insanity caused by his horns. (Although it's at least justified by his previously established love of the occult and larger-than-life characters.) He showed hints of this to Chrono as a child, too. Picky Eater: Joshua hates carrots. Nightmare Fetishist: Instead of being freaked out or disbelieving when Chrono calls himself a demon, Joshua's reaction is "WOW!! Are witches and fairies real, too?!". Big Little Brother: He even refused to call Rosette big sister because he was taller than her. I Just Want to Be Badass: Part of Joshua's motivation to take Chrono's horns. Joshua doesn't want to give Chrono's horns back, and his insanity makes it hard for him to remember his past. So when Rosette tells him to take off the horns, things get... messy.
