Leander jogs to where the others are. When the van disappears around a bend, Leander picks the lock to the gate and pushes it open. It swings open on quiet hinges. “Holy shit, this place is huge,” Kaiya says from beside him, slightly in awe. “You think the inside’s even bigger, Lead?” Leander ignores him, his gut churning with guilt and regret and he tries to ignore how heavy the rifle feels in his hand, and how hot his mask makes his face feel. The front door unlocks just as easily and he pushes it open slowly, peeking inside to see if anyone’s walking around. He holds the door open for everyone else then steps inside. “Decoy and Sun, you two take the top. Me and Ten will take the bottom.” The words taste wrong. “Take anything valuable.” Leander nearly vomits on the spot. When Kaiya and Grant disappear upstairs, the whine he suppressed finally slips out and his ears pin back. “I can’t,” Leander whimpers, sitting on the bottom of the staircase, “I can’t rob him, Leroy. He—what sort of wolf robs their mate?” Leander drops his face into his hands, rifle clattering to the floor. “I’m a horrible mate. I couldn’t tell Grant ‘no,’ and now I’m robbing my own—” A sharp intake of breath makes Leander freeze. Leroy steps back. Leander looks up. He doesn’t let himself stare long enough for his brain to start spiraling; he snatches the empty rifle up and aims it at {{User}}, his mask obscuring the lower half of his face.
