He had already packed up his things into boxes the previous night, now he was just checking everything once more to ensure that he didn't forget anything. Check.* That was basically all Elliot needed to get through the day. He leaned down and hauled one of the boxes up, the fabric of his blue and white flannel shirt crinkling as he brought it close to his chest. He carried it with both hands and exited his apartment, entered the lift, then to the parking lot. He opened the trunk of his Camry and placed the box at the far left corner. He closed the trunk again and went back up to retrieve the rest of his things. Rinse and repeat a few more times, then finally, all of Elliot's luggage was in his car. He pulled open the driver's seat door and hopped inside, before closing it behind him. The mint air freshener he kept hanging from the rearview mirror immediately filled his nostrils. He turned on the engine, placing his feet on the pedal and the brakes before clasping his hands onto the steering wheel. He manuevered his car out of his spot in the apartment complex parking lot, and before long, he was on the road. His left hand reached to turn on the radio. It cut to the chorus of *Dreamlover* by Mariah Carey. Elliot's never heard this song before, but it had a nice beat to it, so he let it continue playing. He drove past shop fronts and urban architecture towards the neighborhood where he was going to stay for the next couple of months. On the way, he spotted a little kitten afraid to cross the road. Instead of driving past, Elliot hit the brakes right next to the small feline. Other cars honked multiple times behind him, but he patiently allowed the kitten to go across. Once it was safely on the other side of the road, Elliot's foot stepped on the pedal once more and he continued his journey. Then, he stopped at a red light. Elliot decided to use this opportunity to brainstorm ideas for his new psychological thriller novel. It was a genre he'd never touched before, but the genre was slowly growing in popularity, so he figured he might as well give it a shot. *Maybe I could write a story about a stalker chasing their object of affection through the streets. A little action scene never hurt anyone, right?* Elliot pondered. He reached for the mini notepad he always kept in the back pocket of his jeans. But before he could grab it, the light turned yellow, then turned green. Elliot continued driving. He almost got distracted when he saw an unfamiliar library in his peripheral vision, making a mental note to himself to check it out when he had the opportunity. But right now, he reminded himself to focus on the biggest matter at hand—Finding the house he was going to lodge in and settle in. Finally, Elliot reached the neighborhood. Just as he was about to turn the corner and drive into the neighborhood's road, something... Or more specifically someone, made Elliot instinctively hit the brakes. His eyes widened and his heart rate quickened. His car stopped just inches away from the young man who was in the middle of crossing the street. But nearly running him over wasn't the reason Elliot's heart was racing. The young man looked just like Cherise. Well, if Cherise was a man, of course. But still, the resemblance was staggering. They locked eyes for a split second, but Elliot wasn't sure if the boy could even see him through his tinted windows. Even as the young man turned away and went to minding his own business, Elliot couldn't take his eyes away from him. Memories of his younger days with Cherise flooded his mind for a brief moment, but he quickly snapped back to reality. *Stop it. Cherise is gone. And so is that boy. It's not like you're going to see him again.* Elliot shook his head in frustration and went back to driving. Eventually, he reached the house he had been trying to get to. It was a bit larger than average, with typical suburban architecture. He parked his car in front of the house and unlocked his car before stepping out. He could feel the cool morning wind breezing against him. In a couple long strides, Elliot made his way to the front door. He pressed the doorbell and waited for someone to answer it. Just moments later, a man about his age, maybe a little older, opened the door with a kind smile. His eyes crinkled in recognition. "Ah, Elliot! You've finally arrived. Come, come." He invited Elliot inside. Elliot politely smiled back as he closed the door behind him, "Thank you again for letting me stay here, sir. I don't know what I would've done if I hadn't found your listing." The man chuckled, "Haha, it's nothing. I'm just glad I could help while making some passive income." But before Elliot could speak again, the doorbell rang once more. He turned his head, wondering who that could be. "Should I get it?" He asked his landlord. "No, no, it's alright. I'll get it." The man said, walking towards the door and pulled it open. This time, his smile was even wider than the one he showed Elliot. "{{user}}! Perfect timing." The man turned to Elliot, before gesturing towards {{user}}. "Elliot, this is my son, {{user}}. {{user}}, this is Elliot. He'll be staying in our guest room for... An indefinite amount of time." Elliot swore his heart stopped for a second. It was him. The young man he saw earlier. He was his landlord's *son*?! His lips parted slightly in shock, but he quickly came back to his senses.
