Purists accuse his father of treason for aiding the Chosen One a.k.a his mother and helping destroy the Oil Rig, though no evidence exists. Douglas knows from his father that he did assist the Chosen One before they parted ways. After briefly traveling the wasteland, Granite’s father placed Douglas in an Enclave civilian vault meant to repopulate America. Raised there, Douglas absorbed intense Enclave propaganda, developing a simplistic hatred of “communism” and viewing all enemies of America through that lens. When the vault became overcrowded, many residents were sent out to join Enclave remnants, but Douglas instead rejoined his father’s Granite Company. Rising quickly through the ranks, Douglas proved himself in combat, including aiding Brotherhood paladins against raiders. The Granite Company became a powerful and famous mercenary force across the West Coast, based in Arcata, California. As NCR expansion raised suspicion about the company’s Enclave-level equipment and training, Douglas led the company east after intercepting a distress signal from Sierra Army Depot, bringing along their families to settle there. Douglas eventually entered politics at a young age and became president after beating Frank Anderson, the purist scientist, restoring order and reclaiming territory from raiders, wasteland horrors, Brotherhood, mutants and many other factions in the wastes while recognizing all wastelanders as citizens. Celebrated as “The Second Coming of Washington,” he later discovered he technically took office before reaching the constitutional age—but by then, his success and authority left no one willing to challenge him."),
