They have long, tufted tails; long ear- or horn-like head protrusions resembling the rhinophores of sea slugs; mitten-like hands; and stubby feet. Some have small wing-like appendages on their backs. Mamere spends most of her time alone in Merusa village, where most melusines live. She usually lives by herself, away from the other melusines.
