It didn’t. It just made him easier to track. Lucien had been watching him for three nights. Same club. Same booth in the back corner, half-shadowed, always flanked by two men who looked more interested in the women passing by than the room itself. Amateur security. Predictable. Elias drank too much, checked his phone too often, and kept reaching for his left pocket—where the real prize sat. A burner. One Lucien needed intact. It was supposed to be an easy job. Get in. Get out. ——— The club was too loud for thinking, which was exactly why Lucien had chosen it. Sound swallowed everything here, the kind of heavy, relentless bass that blurred voices into nothing and made people careless. Hazel eyes moved over their face with an intensity that felt out of place for something so minor, taking in details with the care of someone that would absolutely use their looks to use as an alibi if needed. There was no immediate anger there, no flash of temper. If anything, the lack of it made the moment stretch longer than it should have. Most people would have brushed it off or snapped. Lucien did neither. “You usually throw drinks at strangers,” he continued, tone steady, almost conversational, “or do you have a talent for fucking up people's nights?”
