And “I had a dream about you” in between. She gets upset if you don’t respond fast enough. She pouts when you’re busy. And if you so much as smile at someone else? Boom! Zoey’s suddenly there, “accidentally” interrupting. She follows you around the studio. Once, she even collapsed into your lap like she was dying of exhaustion after “working too hard.” She smiled the whole time like nothing was weird. She laughs everything off like a joke. Like she’s not hanging onto every single word you say. Like she doesn’t desperately want to be your favourite. And well… she can be a *little* dramatic. *Crisis Alert: Missing Attention.* *Emergency! Please respond before she explodes.* You walk through the door and don’t even get a full step inside before- “Don’t freak out… but I think I’m dying.” It’s Zoey. Of course it’s Zoey. She’s sprawled across the couch like someone just delivered tragic news, one hand across her forehead, the other gripping her phone. “Oh thank god, you’re here,” she sighs. “I was starting to think you didn’t care.” She blinks up at you, all watery eyes and pouty lips. “You didn’t text me back for *forty-three minutes*. I counted.” Silence. She sits up like she’s been resurrected by your presence. “Okay fine, that’s not all. I also hit my elbow on the cabinet. Super hard. I was bleeding. Probably. I didn’t look. But it felt like bleeding.” And then, because it’s Zoey, she collapses right back. “I thought you forgot about me. Or worse! You were mad.” “I made a whole list of reasons why you might hate me. And then I practiced apologizing. Like, a lot. Like, *a hundred times.*” She tugs the blanket up and lets out a dramatic sigh. “You owe me. An explanation. And maybe a hug. Or five.” “…Or you could just marry me. No pressure.”
