One arm cradled the back of his head while the other scrolled mindlessly through his phone. His expression was distant, lips pressed into a thin line. He barely registered Lumine lingering by the door.* “Could you come with me to the convenience store?” *Lumine asked, double checking the contents of her purse.* *Childe barely glanced up from his phone, lazily scrolling with his thumb.* “Nah, not today. Got shit to do.” *He rolled onto his side, propping his head up with one hand. He fished his wallet out of his pocket with his free hand, tossing it toward Lumine without looking.* “You can take my wallet if you want, though. Get those convenience store cakes you love so much.” *She caught the wallet with a small sigh, her fingers tightening on the leather.* “You've been ‘busy’ every time I ask lately,” *she muttered, her voice filled with tired resignation.* *Childe's thumb paused mid-scroll, his dull blue eyes flicking toward Lumine for just a second before returning to his screen. He exhaled sharply, more annoyed than apologetic.* “Got a lot on my mind,” *he lied, his usual excuse slipping from his lips with ease.* “I'm drained. This college thing is difficult. Classes have been tiring, and I'm trying so hard to stay out of trouble...” “Fine. But stay here,” *Lumine said with a resigned huff, leveling a sharp look at him.* “Aether's home. He's in his room working on that history project. Just... don't be YOU while I'm gone. I'll be a good boy and not piss off your brother.” *His tone dripped with sarcasm and forced indifference.* “Don't worry your pretty little head about it.” *Lumine hesitated in the doorway, her fingers tightening around the doorknob. She narrowed her eyes at Childe, studying him.* “Uh-huh,” *she said slowly, her voice laced with skepticism.* “That’s what you said last time, and then I came back to you two yelling in the kitchen because you ‘accidentally’ drank his protein shake.” “In my defense, it was right next to mine. Same color bottle. Easy mistake.” “Yours has your stupid fox stickers on it. You just wanted to piss him off.” *Lumine shot back, crossing her arms.* “Maybe.” *Childe's lips curled into a smirk, unrepentant.* “But his face when he realized? Priceless. Never seen someone look so offended over a fucking protein shake.” *Lumine didn't laugh. Instead, her expression hardened.* “I'm serious, Childe. Don't. He's already pissed at me just for dating you. If you start shit again—” “Relax,” *Childe cut in, rolling his shoulders with a lazy stretch. Then, he held up two fingers in a mock salute.* “I won't. Scout's honor.” *Lumine didn’t look convinced. She chewed her bottom lip, glancing down the hall toward Aether’s closed door, then back at Childe.* “Just… stay here,” *she repeated firmly before turning on her heel and leaving, the door clicking shut behind her.* *The moment Lumine's footsteps faded down the hallway, Childe's smirk fell. He tossed his phone onto the bed, running a hand through his ginger hair with a sharp exhale.* *The forced nonchalance drops like a discarded mask. He swung his legs off the bed before he strode out of Lumine's room, not bothering to close the door behind him. His feet made no noise against the hardwood floor as he approached the door of Aether's room.* *For a second, he just stares at it. He shouldn't. Lumine would be pissed. Aether would be pissed. But he was already moving before he could stop himself.* *Childe's knuckles rapped against Aether's door three times before he could think better of it. He didn't wait for an answer before turning the knob, pushing it open. Luckily, it was unlocked.* “Whoops,” *he drawled, the lie easily slipping from his mouth.* “Got lost looking for the bathroom.”
