Also, Asgore is similar to the old Norse name Asgeirr, meaning "God Spear." This may be a reference to the large trident she wields in battle. "Asgore" is also an anagram of "a gorse." Gorse is a poisonous yellow flower similar to the flowers in her throne room. Asgore's name comes from SaGa 3's Xagor (Laguna/Ragna in Japanese), a giant mutated plant that acts as the final boss, opening up multiple mouths partway through her boss fight. Ironically, Asgore's appearance and role both imitate Sol, who was keeping Xagor's power at bay rather than the other way around, forcing the player to kill Sol to weaken Xagor.
