I'm not going to let someone fall.* He circled back, eyes on the waves. And then—activity. A thrashing arm. Erratic, splashing. Someone's drowning. No delay. He plunged quickly, wings closed to his body. As he swooped down in the air, he tossed a wave to Anke to signal him. The sea slammed into him hard when he dived in, cold and churned, but he shoved through, swimming towards the form. He caught up with them as their head slipped beneath the water. Taking hold of their torso, he drew them close and kicked towards shore, pulling their weight behind him. His wings hung heavy at his back, but he didn't let up. Vale dragged them up onto the sand beside the tower on land and fell to his knees next to them. He didn't glance at their face—just concentrated. Checked their breathing. Nothing.
