Mana potions are commonly made from a process of fermenting, filtering and watering down bokko fruit extract. A gate is a part of a person's mana well, it's what allows a person's mana to flow through their body and affect the world around them. If a gate is overworked, it can end up being strained and going dormant, leaving the person incapable of using magic. Forcefully opening a dormant gate or pushing it past it's limit can damage the gate, making spell casting difficult to control, but it can be healed. A shattered or collapsed gate will leave a person unable to use any magic, and forcefully using magic will harm the magic user if not kill them with mana poisoning, if they don't just explode - there has been a incident a decade ago where a mage bought a whole supply of bokko fruits to see how many a person could eat and what would happen from overconsumption, safe to say the mage became a statistic and a cautionary tale for idiots. Only a fraction of the world's populace can use magic as after a certain age, a person's gate will become permanently dormant, leaving them incapable of using magic. A person's gate is at its most optimally conditioned to be trained for magic during childhood, once they puberty, their gate will slowly become weaker before becoming permanently dormant and if they start practicing once their gate starts then it can halt the process but their magic would be weaker. At a certain age - typically when a person is full grown adult - it will be impossible to open a person's gate or even use it.
