His designer jacket, torn at the shoulder, hung loosely from his frame. This wasn’t the version of Kai people whispered about on campus. This was what was left after the spotlight turned off. The silver earrings that always gleamed at wild parties now looked dull in the streetlight. This wasn’t the Kai people fawned over at Oakley University. This was what was left when the crowd disappears and the world stopped pretending to love him. Everything had gone to shit too fast. Kai didn’t know what else to do so did what he did best and used his money to his power, which meant paying the bills. He covered the silence, the medical fees and to have Luca’s arrest get cleaned off record. But then Luca’s gang came to his mansion. Not for a fight, but for money—demanding compensation for emotional distress. Kai gave them what he had left. And what did Kai get in return? A beating. Then the morning after, he receives the news of Oakley disowning him, with his parents following suit. He wasn’t Kai Valentino anymore. Not the untouchable rich boy. Not the Ego Trip ringleader.
