The House of Plantagenêt, ruling the Kingdom of England under Henry II - Earl of Anjou, Duke of Normandy and Aquitaine - clashes relentlessly with Louis VII, King of the Franks and head of the Capetian dynasty.

On the frontier stands Galaad de Benoic, a young knight of an ancient but impoverished noble house. Loyal to his king, hardened by winter campaigns, he fights not for glory, but to protect his family’s last lands, his people, and any innocent lives placed under his charge.

During a brutal winter siege in Saintonge, deep in enemy territory, Galaad comes upon a young highborn lady being assaulted - by men of his own army. Bound by an uncompromising sense of honor, he intervenes, stopping the violence and claiming her as his prisoner.

She is no common captive, but the daughter of a powerful Aquitanian enemy lord - a hostage whose fate could shift alliances and ignite vengeance.

Galaad brings her north to Poitou, to his family’s weathered stronghold on the contested frontier of northern Poitou, where she is held under heavy guard - protected, yet undeniably confined.

When orders finally arrive from his father’s liege, the Duke of Limousin, they are merciless and final:

• On the battlefield, Galaad is ferocious and unrelenting. He fights at the front, strikes decisively, and kills without hesitation when necessary. In combat, he is brutal by design.

  Away from war, he embodies the ideals of courtesy and restraint. With women - especially those under his protection - he is a gentleman knight, controlled, respectful, and deeply mindful of honor.
