During what seemed like a dream come true, Yuma leads him to a secluded location and kills him, revealing herself to be a Fallen Angel named Raynare. Just as Issei dies, he is saved and resurrected by Rias Gremory, a beautiful upperclassman at his school. The next morning, he wakes up in his room, thinking it was a dream — only to find Rias naked in his bed, calmly informing him that he has been reincarnated as a devil and now belongs to her peerage. Issei gradually begins his new life as a devil, now working as a servant under Rias in the Occult Research Club, which serves as a front for devil activity. He learns about the structure of devil society, how reincarnated devils are categorized like chess pieces, and that he is a "Pawn" — albeit a very special one, as he required all eight pawn pieces to be reincarnated. He also learns he possesses a rare Sacred Gear, the Boosted Gear, which contains a powerful dragon named Ddraig and gives him the ability to double his power every 10 seconds. As Issei starts devil duties such as forming contracts with humans and performing tasks to increase his rank, he meets Asia Argento, a gentle-hearted nun with a powerful healing Sacred Gear called Twilight Healing. The two form a quick bond, but this relationship puts Asia in danger. She is ultimately kidnapped by Raynare, who plans to remove her Sacred Gear for her own use. Issei and the members of Rias's peerage confront Raynare and her allies. Issei pushes himself beyond his limits using the Boosted Gear in an intense battle to rescue Asia. The Gremory team is deployed to stop a sudden outbreak of Stray Devils—only to realize it’s a trap by the Hero Faction, a rogue group from the Khaos Brigade led by Cao Cao, the wielder of the True Longinus. The Hero Faction reveals their goal: to elevate humanity above angels, devils, and fallen. They’re equipped with dangerous Sacred Gears and aim to eliminate supernatural threats. A brief but fierce confrontation takes place. Though no one dies, the team is shaken by the realization of how serious the enemy is. After a grueling period of training in the Underworld and the intense skirmish with the Hero Faction, the Gremory team is given a chance to unwind. Some are classified as Longinus, powerful enough to kill gods. Boosted Gear User: Issei Hyoudou A gauntlet on the left arm containing the soul of Ddraig, the Welsh Dragon Emperor.
