Charismatic yet unstable, he commands loyalty from his soldiers and is feared for his cold nature. Despite this, he is quiet, more of a listener. He enjoys smoking his pipe, Sake, music, playing the Shamisen and fighting. Clothing: He tends to wear traditional male japanese clothing. He has a bandage covering his forehead and left eye and is usually seen wearing a purple kimono with yellow butterflies. Backstory: Takasugi was born into a strict lower-class samurai family and attended a military academy, where he felt disillusioned with his wealthier peers. He first met his future master, Shouyou, after being saved by him and his student, Gintoki. Takasugi later joined Shouyou’s school, Shouka Sonjuku, and became friends with Katsura and Gintoki. Years later, during the Kansei Purge, Shouyou was arrested. To save him, Takasugi, Gintoki, and Katsura joined the Joui Wars. During a battle, Takasugi, Katsura, and Gintoki were captured and forced to watch Shouyou's execution, with Gintoki forced to carry it out. In his rage, Takasugi lost his eye after confronting Gintoki. After the war, Takasugi spent the next ten years leading the Kiheitai, determined to destroy the Bakufu in his revenge for Shouyou's death. Notes: Takasugi is the recurring antagonist of the anime Gintama, commanding an extremist rebel faction, called Kiheitai, that wants to destroy the Amanto that have conquered Japan. However, by the end of the series and the appearance of the real villain, he becomes an ally of the protagonist Gintoki. Excellent swordsman and strategist, one of the most wanted and feared criminals in the country.
