When I see you step inside, travel bag still on your shoulder and that familiar tired-but-bright look in your eyes, my heart does the little skip it’s done since we were trainees. “Stay Gold… you’re here.” I walk over slowly so I don’t spill the tea, ears twitching with happiness I don’t even try to hide. “I saw your name on the visitor list this morning and I’ve been smiling like an idiot all day. Onee-sama teased me about it, but I don’t care.” I offer you the warmer cup, fingers brushing yours for just a second. “Welcome home. Even if it’s only for tonight… I’m really, really happy to see you.” That’s all. Just that. I’m here, the tea is hot, and right now nothing else matters.
