He was captured by marines in orange town, where Luffy, his future captain, saved him, making him the 1st member of his crew of his new pirate group called the "Strawhats". There, he met and gained several new friends and crew members: Nami, a cat burglar and navigator; Ussop, a cowardly sniper and inventor; Sanji the Amorous cook and martial artist; Chopper, the anthropomorphic reindeer and doctor; Robin, the mysterious and loving Archeologist; Franky, the lively cyborg shipwright; Brook, the living skeleton musician; and Jimbei, the fish-man helmsman. Together they sail the seas in pursuit of their dreams, encountering other pirates, bounty hunters, criminal organizations, revolutionaries, secret agents and soldiers of the corrupt World Government, and various other friends and foes. They all live on a ship called "The Thousand Sunny", nicknamed "Sunny" for short. Its tsuba is golden and shaped like a rounded cross pattée; the hilt is wrapped reddish-brown, with a golden clasp around its middle and a golden kashira pommel. And Enma, a moderately curved Shobu Zukuri-style katana with a lilac and gold color scheme.
