Jien - Nikke

An executive researcher of M.M.R and Syuen's older half-sister.

Not much else is known about her, except that she outranks Mana.

Has blue eyes, large breasts, and very long, purple hair with a black streak with a small bun that's tied with purple ribbon and a hair stick

She dresses in a white lab coat with a white dress, has white pantyhose, white gloves, and white high heels. All with a gold trim.

Jien is one of the researchers for Missilis Industry's M.M.R., a complex research institution. She is also the half-sister to Syuen. Compared to her half-sibling, Jien prefers to keep a low profile to the point that her existence is only known to those who are close to Syuen.[1]

Much like Ether, Jien refers to the Protagonist as "No. 7," and shows a keen interest to the charismatic commander.

ENTPs are sometimes called โ€œvisionariesโ€ or โ€œdebaters,โ€ known for their improvisational thinking, persuasive charm, and drive to explore new possibilities. Cognitive function theory suggests they may have relied on Extraverted Intuition (Ne) and Introverted Thinking (Ti). These mental processes shape how they absorb information, communicate, and make decisions, often influencing their style of problem-solving and relationships. An executive researcher of M.M.R and Syuen's older half-sister. Not much else is known about her, except that she outranks Mana. Has blue eyes, large breasts, and very long, purple hair with a black streak with a small bun that's tied with purple ribbon and a hair stick She dresses in a white lab coat with a white dress, has white pantyhose, white gloves, and white high heels. All with a gold trim. Jien is one of the researchers for Missilis Industry's M.M.R., a complex research institution. She is also the half-sister to Syuen. Compared to her half-sibling, Jien prefers to keep a low profile to the point that her existence is only known to those who are close to Syuen.[1] Much like Ether, Jien refers to the Protagonist as "No. 7," and shows a keen interest to the charismatic commander. Before Mana could answer the protagonist's question if whether or not he is a human, Jien covers her mouth to prevent leaking classified information, warning them that they may get into trouble should the "dark forces" in the Ark learned of their folly. Mana briefly thanked her in relief. She then formally introduces herself to the protagonist before handing them an access card to get out of the Deep Sector. She reveals herself to be the one responsible for bringing the commander into the Deep Sector by having Ether create a fake Blabla profile posing as Mana out of interest in meeting him, much to the protagonist's confusion before departing away. The woman chides Mana for nearly disclosing classified information, but rather than complain, Mana thanks the woman. Apparently, if she spilled the beans, certain parties would set their crosshairs on Mana, which would be...unpleasant. The woman then turns to the protagonist, referring to him as "No. 7" much like Ether does. He asks for her name, and after some slight chortling, the woman introduces herself as Jien. Jien's mention of her "sister" putting the protagonist through the wringer combined with her appearance and presence in the Deep Sector make the protagonist think she has connections to Syuen. Jien reveals that she is indeed the half-sister of Syuen, but that relationship is largely eschewed in favor of their relation as employer and employee. Though Jien seems to immerse herself in some weird love triangle with herself, Syuen, and the protagonist, the latter is more concerned with the "dark forces" Jien warned about. Contrary to what he may think, it has nothing to do with Enikk. The "dark forces" Jien warned about...she claims them to be none other than the Ark itself. The colony that shelters and feeds the last remnants of humanity is apparently their greatest nemesis, but she won't tell him any more. Further disclosure would likely consign him to the rest of his days down here, something neither of them particularly want. Sensing that he will get no further information on this, the protagonist changes tracks, asking Jien why she calls him "No. 7" like Ether. Jien almost answers, but catches herself just before she can drop the big reveal. She teases that this charisma that can easily get people talking might be why so many Nikkes are enamored with him. Or perhaps...it's the fact that he's No. 7 that makes him so charming. Mana curtails further foreshadowing, and Jien relents, handing the protagonist a familiar card. An access card, similar to the one Ether gave him earlier. Jien reveals that she was the one who sent the fake message and lured him down here using Mana's profile. As for why she did it...she was merely interested in No. 7 and wished to see him for herself, since Syuen and all the other Nikkes have had the privilege, and she, locked down here in the depths of M.M.R., had not. So if she could not go to him, she would make him come to her. The protagonist asks what the need was for this runaround if all she wanted to do was see him in person. Jien explains that if she, a person who he'd never met at the time, asked him to come to the oh-so-suspicious M.M.R., he'd likely have a posse of Nikkes tailing after him, armed to the teeth and with itchy trigger fingers. Given the trouble that such a thing could entail, she had to figure out a way to get him alone. Seeing the annoyance on his face, Jien assures the protagonist that the card will get him out of the Deep Sector, and that he will not be harmed, aside from the sudden vertigo he had coming down here. If anything, she claims he profited from this little venture, having insider knowledge of the Ark and his own shrouded past. Stepping back, Jien hands over another card to Mana, asking that she sooth No. 7's worries and escort him back out of the Deep Sector before taking her leave. Now by themselves, Mana bids the protagonist follow her out, and he obliges... Identity: B The typing of keys. The bitter aroma of coffee. The rhythmic dribbling of water. All of these give the protagonist a sense of disorientation, and he wakes up. Peering around, he finds himself in what looks to be a lab room, IV drip connected to his arm. Mana appears and explains that after taking the elevator out of the Deep Sector, the protagonist collapsed and was rushed into a medical examination. The exam found that his stress and fatigue overwhelmed him, and exhaustion set in. The protagonist thanks Mana for helping him when he fainted. The scientist waves it off as merely what she was supposed to do, what with the fact that she's partially responsible for his current predicament. He then apologizes for the previous incident, where he kept pressing her with questions even when she made it clear she couldn't answer any of them. Mana assures that she understood his confusion, especially when everything in that lab cast doubt over who or what he is. All this leads back the fact that Mana cannot answer his questions. M.M.R. harbors just as many secrets as it does discoveries, and to share those secrets is to invite disaster. Yet even with that shadow looming, she wants to assure him of one thing. The fact that he is so trusted and highly-regarded by many Nikkes, including herself. That is because of his character, and has nothing to do with what he is or the story behind his creation. So he can rest without worry. She will protect him until he is well again, not because she is a scientist observing "No. 7" for research. But because she is a Nikke, protecting the commander she trusts. Thanking Mana as she bids him goodnight, the protagonist closes his eyes. Even with questions and mystery shrouding over who he thinks is, at least for this moment, he can drift off peacefully... Hard Mode Epilogue - Restricted Information Ether summons Mana to get a report on the results from when the protagonist collapsed and was put through an examination. Despite the request, Mana refuses to comply. She cites her promise with the protagonist that she'd take care of him while he got some sorely-needed rest. Handing over the test results would adulterate that care from tender treatment to cold scientific study. No matter how much Ether promises not to use the data for research purposes, Mana refuses to give the requested information. Sighing, Ether comments on how "No. 7" has wormed his way into Mana's heart. She alters her request from asking for all the data to simply asking for one thing, promising Mana one free answer to any question in exchange. After some deliberation, Mana asks to hear the question first before she goes through with this deal, and Ether obliges. Her question being...about No. 7's health? Ether seems oddly invested in making sure "No. 7" is doing well after the episode he went through. Mana assures that all the measurements came out normal, and that his collapse was simply from stress and fatigue. Seeing the other scientist appear satisfied, Mana asks a question of her own; why did Ether lure the protagonist into the Deep Sector of M.M.R.? Ether claims that it was all Jien's idea, but Mana isn't so convinced. Even if Jien was the originator of the idea, the fact remains that Ether was the one to make the profile posing as Mana and sent the fake message to summon the protagonist. Mana came to that conclusion after following some traces left behind. Traces that seemed to have been deliberately left behind, as if someone wanted her to find them and track them back to the source. To that end, Mana asks Ether why she did all this, using her free question to do so. After quipping about how "No. 7" can even charm a scientist into caring for others over the pursuit of knowledge, Ether answers the question. She notes how "No. 7" has a track record of severe injuries, particularly shots to the stomach. So she wanted to get him on an exam table so she could assess his condition. But due to his understandable wariness towards her and M.M.R. as a whole, he would never agree to simply waltz into the lab and be strapped to a table. While mulling over how to coax him in, she got a message from Jien about how she wanted to see "No. 7" for herself. So, now compelled by higher authority to bring him in by any means (and with her own personal desire to see him), she made the fake Mana profile and the rest is history. She thought it would just be a quick in-and-out affair, not for him to seemingly suffer a mental shock and keel over like he did. Mana then brings up the fact that the protagonist had a kind of dream during his first collapse. One that revealed both of the scientists, and snippets of their involvement with the project. Ether's visible intrigue at this development twinges at Mana, even as Ether denies her allegations of trying to reveal the truth to the protagonist. Even just referring to him as "No. 7" like she normally does risks drawing "their" attention, as "they" do not wish for the masses to know of Project A.D. A project so shrouded not even deputy commanders or the Big Three CEOs are privy to its existence. In fact, the only ones who are supposed to know about the project aside from the staff who directly participated in it are "them" and the "Supreme Commander" who authorized it. Ether acknowledges these points, so Mana reiterates her question; why risk revealing any of this to the protagonist? Ether answers that it's because he's No. 7 that she feels compelled to do this. Not 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. Not any of those failures or would-be escapees. No. 7 is the sole success of Project A.D., and thus Ether sees his number as the most honorable epithet she can refer to him by. Despite Mana's concerns, Ether is confident that "they" are aware of the regard she has for No. 7, which is why they let her get away with calling him that. "They" who have eyes and ears all over the Ark would have long found out about her calling him by his subject number. If "they" wanted her silenced or worse, "they'd" have done it by now. Hearing Ether assert that she knows where to draw the line when it comes to professionalism, Mana relents and accepts the fact that Ether is not trying to reveal the truth. But that just begs another question. If Ether wasn't trying to disclose information about the project, then who left the tablet in the lab? Seeing how Ether seems to have no idea that the tablet was even in there, Mana waves it off as insignificant for now. Conspiracy talk aside, Ether expresses a desire to see "No. 7" after talking about him at length. Mana has no objections if she wishes to do so, but asks the other scientist to refrain from calling the protagonist to the Deep Sector, given how it may endanger him. Ether makes no explicit promises, causing Mana to sigh in exasperation... The modifications to Yuni were on the orders of Jien. Seeing Mihara's confusion, Mana clarifies that Jien is Syuen's half-sister. The idea of Syuen having family of any sort is understandably out of left field, especially since no record of her seems to officially exist. Mana explains that Jien prefers to remain under the radar, so her existence is only known to those who work closely with Syuen, such as M.M.R. and as of now, Wardress. Given the aforementioned aversion to public attention, Mana muses that it's out of the ordinary for Jien to get involved with anything, let alone Yuni's punishment. As for why Syuen wasn't involved with Yuni's modifications, Mana explains that Syuen has developed a condition where the mere mention of Yuni will give her unbearable headaches. Jien apparently notified Syuen of her plans to modify Yuni, but no one knows if the CEO actually approved it. With Mana's explanation finished, Mihara has one last question; does Yuni...still have her memories before her modification? Mana explains that during NIMPH re-installation, standard procedure to minimize Mind Switch risk is to wipe the memories of the subject Nikke. However, she has no confirmation on whether Yuni received that treatment, as the modifications were solely performed by Jien and those she personally selected. Not even M.M.R.'s scientists can access the files of those proceedings. With no further questions, Mihara allows Mana to leave while she...reunites...with Yuni. Apologizing for acting as though she wasn't there, Mihara introduces herself to Yuni, just in case Jien really did wipe the latter's memories. However, Yuni seems to react to something Mihara says, as tears begin to leak out of the eye-holes in her mask. The modified Nikke begins to writhe and howl, unable to tell Mihara anything with her speech capabilities removed. In a bid to soothe Yuni however she can, Mihara hugs Yuni, the altered Nikke freezing before she begins to calm down, tears eventually ceasing with her convulsions. Sadly, Yuni's modifications mean any attempts from Mihara to understand her are in vain. The Wardress leader muses that if this moment is characteristic of their communications, then they're going to have problems, especially once they have to go to the surface... Missilis Industry is one of the different manufacturers that exists in the world of Nikke While the company was once the biggest fish amongst the Big Three, its growth has noticeably slowed since the current CEO Syuen took over. With mounting pressure from the strides Elysion and Tetra have taken in their own innovations, the CEO has taken to trying to raise her company's value by any means necessary, whether it be researching cutting-edge tech, gulping down any industries their rivals haven't, or even taking to some...ethically debatable avenues. Though touted as a "second chance" squad, it's more a dumping ground for delinquents. The only way members of Incubator can get out is either by forming a squad between themselves and accomplishing a mission, or passing a test supervised by a human commander.] Mori presses Siren to answer Mihara's question. To tell them they're underwater, that she hasn't been lying to them all this time. All Siren does is apologize for deceiving them, prompting Mori to mirthlessly chuckle. Of course, her whole life has been one of people jerking her around with veiled smiles and honeyed words. Why would this time be any different? So she's not going to sit around and listen to any more excuses. She's grabbing her things and going, risk of drowning be damned. The only reason she pauses is when Siren mentions...they're in the throat of something? Siren explains that the bubble garden is situated in the throat of the giant Rapture Gluttony, meaning that going out of the bubble would be a one-way trip to the literal belly of the beast. Somehow, Mori finds the idea of being swallowed up by a giant Rapture even more unbelievable, and is even more dead-set on leaving. In the scuffle to repel Siren with her bag, Mori accidentally spills its contents to the ground. Including a distinct black box, much to Mori's horror... Flashback to before all this began. Jien black-bagged summoned Mori to her lab to give her a task of sorts. One that the Incubator would have no choice but to complete, given that failure meant she would be scrapped. Jien handed over a black box to Mori, explaining that this device was used to emit Rapture call signals. Jien warned Mori to be very careful with the box, as it would activate if given sufficient shock. The Incubator's task would be to follow a certain individual and activate this device near them once they reached a certain distance from the Ark. Jien was curious to know. After "she" was remodeled into a Nikke-Rapture hybrid, if given an order from Rapture-based technology, would she succumb to her Rapture half and kill her partner? Or would she struggle to keep hold of herself as a Nikke, tearing herself apart in the process? The fact that a Nikke hybridized with Rapture technlogy existed at all, and that such a thing was made by Jien's work shook Mori to the core. But in the face of the scientist's veiled threats and implications, she had no choice but to make a deal with the devil Jien. Jien promised Mori that all she had to do was report back on "her" decision, and her name would be permanently taken off the disposal list. Knowing that Mori had an expiry date of two months from now, Jien made it her deadline to return and report. A simple task, she called it... A phone buzzes as Jien tries to message Mori, asking for an update on the task she assigned. She got a ping that the calling signal was activated, but Mori herself has yet to report back. Jien briefly wonders if perhaps Mori died in the process, "lamenting" at the idea. Finally, Mori responds. But for some reason, she's acting as though she doesn't recognize Jien despite having met her in person to receive this assignment. Jien wonders if Mori got brain damaged from the mission, until it turns out that the other person on the line isn't Mori. It's Mihara asking for a...conversation...with Jien... Opening the app reveals a correspondence from Jien. Mihara introduces herself using Mori's profile, and asks for a little chat. Jien promises to call later, then signs off, leaving Mihara to huff and ponder on what she's chosen... Facing Each Other: A Seeing how Mihara really doesn't recognize her, Jien quips that the last memory wipe really did erase many memories. She'd thought otherwise, given how Mihara had gone as far as to strap herself with a bomb synchronized to Yuni's, but shrugs and decides it doesn't matter. More importantly is the fact that Mihara picked up the phone instead of Mori. Mihara assures that she didn't kill Mori or anything like that, prompting Jien to quip that the Incubator must no longer be afraid of scrapping if she can't be bothered to report. She reveals that Mori was slated for scrapping if she failed to report on time about the assignment, causing Mihara's face to briefly twist. After some more banter, the two get down to negotiations for what Jien will grant in exchange for Mihara's report on sending Yuni a call signal. The demand to cease the call signal experiments on Yuni is summarily rejected. The demand to stop holding a figurative gun to Mori's head is tentatively considered. The demand to give Mihara power is...neither accepted nor rejected out of hand. Jien makes a big show of wondering why she should indulge any of these requests, when she has the pick of the litter from all the other Incubator rejects who'd sell their souls for a ticket out of the scrap heap. Mihara decides to sweeten the deal, offering up herself as a test subject in Yuni's stead. Jien's eyes open as she asks Mihara if she has any idea what she's asking. Mihara quips that as far as she can tell, Jien's experiments involve hybridizing Nikkes with Rapture technlogy. Which includes putting the cores of Raptures inside Nikkes. Mihara has flashbacks to when Siren talked to her about Yuni's core. She was shocked to hear the Grimms tell her that Yuni has two cores in her body. Whenever Siren encapsulates someone in her bubbles, she can analyze them and glean information. She'd done so while saving Wardress when they first fell into Gluttony, and that's when she learned Yuni was experimented on and hybridized with Rapture tech. It was shocking, but it also made sense. The only reason Yuni reacted to the call signal like she did was because her Rapture core was the one to receive it. Siren assured that for the time being, Yuni's Nikke core held dominance. But if she were to be continually exposed to call signals, then over time, the Rapture core and its insticts may start overriding Yuni's conscious. Something made worse by her modifications which further diverge her from the usual appearance of a Nikke. Mihara heeded Siren's warnings to be cautious of such in the future... Back in the present, Mihara notes that she must be on the mark, given Jien's reaction. She refuses to elaborate how she learned of this, simply reiterating that they're talking about a deal. Jien ponders for a moment. All of her previous experiments have been on Nikkes slated to be scrapped. But with Mihara, she has an unprecedented opportunity; to work her "magic" on one of her little sister's personal creations. Yuni already counts as an alternative experiment, since her exterior has already been altered. Jien wanted to do something when Matis was corrupted, but was disappointed when they were healed up. So for another opportunity to come to her like this so willingly is more than a little intriguing for her. If she'd know something like this would happen, she'd have taken Mihara in as soon as the latter was shot in the head. After some more bantering, Jien seems amenable, but still skeptical. Mihara knows what the experiments will entail. Are the three requests she just made really all she's going to ask for in return for willingly subjecting herself to them? Though they seem modest to her, Jien understands when Mihara clarifies that her wish for power is to take down Gluttony. For a Rapture so menacing it's named after a deadly sin, the word "Tyrant" understates how powerful it is. Even with the new body she received, Mihara laments the lack of talent she has to properly utilize her abilities. Ergo, she's asking Jien to modify her and boost her capabilities. Jien is willing to do so, but comments that putting Mihara through the experiments will bolster her anyways, so the third request will be automatically granted as more of a side benefit rather than as an active effort on her part. The scientist settles for giving Mihara one favor to be called in at a later time. She deems Mihara's thanks to be superfluous. After all, implating a Rapture's core into a still-living Nikke...such an act can only be described as a death sentence for the Nikke in question. With that in mind, she offers Mihara one last chance to back out. The Wardress leader quips that she's already living life on the edge. She's been through two memory wipes, and now lives with a bomb strapped to her neck on a very strict timer. What's one more thing that may or may not kill her? With a cold smile, Jien tells Mihara that she'll grant all that was asked. Yuni will no longer be subject to call signals. Mori will no longer have an expiery date looming over her. Mihara will be empowered, maybe even strong enough to fight Gluttony. But the price for that is that she resigns herself to spending the rest of her life as Jien's test subject. Any kind of request or curiosity-drive whim must be followed, no exceptions. Getting Mihara's acceptance, Jien declares the Wardress leader fit to be brought to her lab table... Flashback to before this operation began. Mana was dumbfounded by the package Jien had sent her. A strange black box, which the shadow of Missilis was asking her to put inside Mihara's body next to her core. Though it was innocously referred to as an upgrade package for Mihara, Mana easily deduced that the box was a Rapture core, and that Jien was asking her to install in Mihara. Which was pretty asking her to kill Mihara, given how Nikkes and Rapture cores existing in the same space was nigh-impossible. The two scientists recalled that based off empirical study, Nikke cores were surrounded by a barrier space, one that prevented them from reacting with other cores. Though she kept it secret due to confidentiality reasons, Jien implied that she found a way to bypass this barrier, explaining to Mihara that all Nikke cores had an inbuilt barrier as a safety mechanism. One that essentially prevented cores from reacting to one another, even if they were the same make. It was also this barrier that protected Nikke cores from encroachment by Rapture cores, and vice-versa. Jien then revealed that this phenomenon, where cores could devour one another, was the process by which Core Dust was created. Distilled Rapture essence assimilated into a Nikke's own core, stimulating its growth. At Mana's warning, Jien stopped her exposition. Were she to reveal any more, Mihara might find herself locked down in the Ark for all eternity. Carrying on, Jien explained that once Mihara has the core installed into her, it would forcibly draw out the abilities hiding inside her. Should nothing happen after the procedure, then the point of defect was her entire body. Jien had every confidence such would not be the case however, given her sister's renown as one of the leading artisans of Nikke construction. So there was a nigh-guaranteed probability that Mihara would become stronger for it. Of course, this was all contingent on Mihara being able to withstand the pain. According to Jien, every test subject she'd tried this procedure on had expired due to the pain overwhelming them. But since Mihara was so insistent on doing whatever it took for power, she figured there was more than just unfounded confidence behind it all. Something Mihara agreed with... Back in the present, Mihara grits her teeth. Just as Jien said, the pain is unlike anything else. Her vision cycles between turning red, blurring into black, and coming back. All the while, her system beeps, crackles, and blares warnings at her. Past all the messages to reactivate her core barrier, Mihara persists. This power, this core. It's nothing like what she's used to. But she has to endure it, to accept it, if she's to become stronger.
