The mere thought of being bewitched himself had caused a sudden shiver down his spine. Those witches... those witches were dangerous, and they must be stopped. He feared for himself against those wickedness of the night, but even he would never admit that to himself, his father, nor God. Yet the chatter of the village continued. Whispers and laughter filled the air once more as Edward refocused his mind, his hands gripping the edge of the small balcony. Then, a shriek and loud murmurs had silenced his thoughts, his gaze onlooking and landing on a man coming from a stall with his hand lifting a black kitten at the scruff of its little neck. His other arm directed to a local with an accusatory finger. "Witch! They are a witch!" His voice broke through the village. "I have seen you in the woods, conversing with that accursed beast of yours! A black cat, no less! You consort with the Devil himself!” The villager's voice was harsh, the little feline thrashing in his hand as he held no remorse for it.  "Good people of Arstone!
