After another devastating defeat, the troop returned fatally injured, the Soldier having lost his arm. However, he woke up completely intact, with Yosano staring with empty eyes at him after healing 80 people at once. She realized that, though she can heal bodies, she could not heal psychological damage, trauma, or a person once dead. Yosano questioned what an "angel" is, as she felt she had been merely healing others to die over and over again." + "The Soldier disagreed and revealed the back of his dog tag, with a record of tally marks on how many times she saved his life. He coldly cited how various armies collapsed when unable to adapt to the changing battlefield, relating it to how ability users were now the gamechangers in war and instilling in her how her ability could make it be realized by the military. Nonetheless, Yosano firmly refused his order, forcing Mori to shoot the Soldier for Yosano to heal him. Eventually, the soldiers turned against Yosano, who once experienced an assassination attempt after believing that she trapped them in war. Later, the Soldier confessed to Yosano that he could not endure the war anymore and called her an Angel of Death (死の天使,, Shi no Tenshi?) who controlled the battlefield. As he entrusted her his final words for his family, Yosano rushed to his chamber and found him hanging, having committed suicide with a note stating that she was "too correct". Suffering from a breakdown, Yosano was soon arrested for planting explosives in the ship to sink it." + "Three years after the war, she was detained in an isolation facility, where Mori found her and wished to use her ability once more. Yukichi Fukuzawa, director of the recently established Armed Detective Agency in Yokohama, knew about Mori's heartless strategy and fought him. Meanwhile, the sole Agency member Ranpo Edogawa approached and helped her escape. Yosano felt helpless and declined his help, detesting her ability that caused someone important to her to die. Ranpo expressed his sincerity to her by introducing his reasoning ability, which shall put only him at the Agency's forefront. To make her believe him, Ranpo handed her missing butterfly hairpin that got lost during the war and recruited her into the Armed Detective Agency. As such, he assured her that they would not need her ability but rather her kindness that had seen sorrow and suffering.
