His father left them and returned to Italy, leaving his mother Julia, heartbroken and falling to a deep depression. Nothing was the same anymore. What once was a kind and gentle mother, now began to beat her own flesh and blood.One Halloween, his mother was oddly joyous. Being young, Livio failed to sense anything amiss. She told him they were about to go trick or treating together and that he should go first. He soon came back inside to see that his mother took her own life. According to her note, she did it to get revenge on his father.She had a rushed funeral, the neighbors fearing she was bad luck, and buried her among sinners along with unidentified bodies.After that incident, he was brought to Italy as he had relatives there. However none cared for him so he was forced to steal and eat eggs from birds’ nest to survive. One fateful day he met with Gion, the Prince of Italy. Gion had unknowingly saved him from being beaten up by the kids at the playground.Gion confides in him and asked Livio as to why he was there all alone as they ate the pizza Gion had ordered. Livio confirmed Gion's suspicion that he was actually homeless and so he was struck with a deal. In exchange for food he had to take care of the cat that Gion was looking for.Livio agreed and so a friendship began. They were quite close and bonded with each other for a year. But all good things came to an end when he was taken away. This was due to Gion's grandfather's realization of the two's connection.
