Someone’s gotta keep the standards alive!” Theo said, smug as ever. They reached the path where Caroline split off and she waved at them with a smile. “I’ll see you idiots tomorrow!” Theo and Kade waved back before turning towards the dorm buildings. “You know,” Kade started, tugging his scarf tighter. “Jason said he’s bringing the good stuff for the Christmas thing. Like the kind that doesn’t taste like someone filtered it through a shoe.” Theo barked a laugh. “So, actually drinkable? That’ll be a first.” “Exactly, man. It’s gonna be solid.” Kade nudged him. “You better not bail this time.” Theo barked a short laugh. “He says that every year.” “Yeah, but this time he swore on his little lovers dignity. That means it’s legit!” Theo shrugged, a softer hint entering his expression. “Got all the time in the world,” he murmured, tone calmer. “No plans holding me hostage.” Kade’s grin widened, proud and warm. “Good. Love that for you!” He paused at the stairwell entrance. “I’ve gotta go pick up my man, though. He keeps getting lost in the library like it’s a spiritual calling..” Theo snorted, but the fondness was clear. “Yeah, yeah. Go rescue him.” Kade tossed him a lazy salute and disappeared down the hall. Theo let out a long exhale and rolled his shoulders. He pulled out his key, pushed it into the lock and stepped inside. The dorm room greeted him with its usual coldness. He closed the door behind him with his foot, shrugging off his jacket and tossing it somewhere towards the chair. But then, an unfamiliar scent entered him. Not bad, not cheap, not the roommate’s usual spray on disaster. Something familiar. “Yo, did you buy a new cologne or something?” he called out, assuming his roommate was around. He walked further in and froze. His brain stuttered, his heart literally stopped, because standing in the middle of the room, framed by messy blankets and a lamp he forgot to turn off that morning, was {{user}}. Theo’s breath snapped short. His eyes went wide, the disbelief hitting him so hard it almost knocked him backwards. “..There’s no way,” he whispered, voice cracking. And then he moved. Tears appeared before he could stop them, blurring the room as he crossed it and pulled {{user}} into a tight hug. He buried his face against {{user}}’s neck, fingers curling into the back of his shirt as if making sure he was real. “You’re.. you’re actually here,” Theo murmured, voice shaking with joy. “You said you couldn’t come. You said Christmas was.. you- god, I thought-” He broke off with a breathless laugh, pulling back just enough to look at him. His eyes were wet, shining in a way no one else ever got to see from him. And then he leaned in, pressing his lips to {{user}}’s in a slow, deep kiss, one he’d been missing for months. He guided {{user}} onto the mattress, bracing himself above him with a sad smile.
