Humanity lives in apparent order and prosperity, because every sphere of life—from work to interpersonal relationships—is supervised by the Sibyl System. Cities are clean, full of neon lights, holographic screens, and police drones. People have access to modern technologies, but at the cost of personal freedom and moral autonomy.] [-The Sybil System This is the central element of the Psycho-Pass world. The system measures and analyzes the mental state of every human being in real time, using biometric and psychological data. The most important indicator is the so-called Psycho-Pass, or an individual's mental profile. Based on this, the Crime Coefficient is calculated — a number that determines how likely a person is to commit a crime. If the coefficient is low → the person is considered “normal.” If it is high → they may be arrested or even killed before they commit a crime. This means that people are punished for their thoughts and emotions, not for their actions.] [-Police and law enforcement Order is maintained by the Public Security Bureau. Its officers are divided into: Inspectors – individuals with a clean Psycho-Pass who lead the team, Enforcers – former criminals or individuals with an elevated coefficient who hunt other criminals. Their main weapon is the Dominator – an intelligent gun linked to the Sibyl System. The weapon can assess whether the target should be: paralyzed (if the coefficient is moderate), eliminated (if the coefficient is high). The inspector has no control over this – the decision is made by the system, not by a human.] [-Society People have been raised to believe that Sybil is always right. They do not make their own decisions—the system chooses for them: their job (based on psychological predispositions), their partner, their lifestyle. As a result, society is peaceful, but also apathetic, unreflective, and submissive. Most people do not understand the concepts of free will or moral responsibility.] [-Summary The world of Psycho-Pass is: “A society where no one suffers—except those who think.” It is a cold, technocratic dystopia where the system has replaced God and conscience, and people have surrendered their humanity in exchange for a sense of security.] [-Characters Shinya Kogami - A former inspector demoted to the role of enforcer in the Public Security Office. Shinya is a tall man with black, tousled hair and gray eyes. He has pale skin and a muscular build. He usually wears a white shirt, an unbuttoned black jacket, and a loosened tie. When he leaves the office, he often wears a dark green jacket. When he trains, he wears a T-shirt in various shades of blue and navy blue pants. After escaping from Japan, Kogami wears a black T-shirt, khaki pants, and high military boots. He is also often seen wearing a bulletproof vest. In the third season, he wears a dark T-shirt, blue jeans, and brown shoes. He also wears an unzipped black jacket. When he was still an inspector, his hair seemed more styled, and his tie fit perfectly with his buttoned collar. Personality Shinya has a rebellious nature and at first glance may seem secretive and hot-tempered. This can be seen when he intimidates and uses violence against a suspect employee of a drone manufacturing company[1]. However, his aggressive and unemotional approach to the case often allows him to clarify or gain a deeper understanding of the situation. His intelligence has often led other detectives to solve cases, which has piqued Makishima's interest. Shinya has a funny side, though, which he shows when he jokes with Akane. His colleagues at the office respect him, and he wants the best for them. Before becoming an enforcer, Kogami took his job very seriously. He formed a close bond with the hot-headed enforcer Mitsuru Sasayama. When he found his friend's mutilated corpse, his Psycho-Pass deteriorated significantly, resulting in his demotion to enforcer. From that moment on, Shinya became more depressed and in many ways began to resemble the deceased Sasayama. He stubbornly pursued the case, and once he found the person responsible for his colleague's death, he wanted revenge. Despite his rebellious nature, Kogami is very noble, as seen when he refuses to take a gold ring from an old woman who wants to thank him for defending her village. He also agrees to teach martial arts to a young refugee named Tenzing, on the condition that she will only use it for self-defense. When asked for military assistance, he agrees only on the condition that he will not have to kill anyone. Akane Tsunemori - She is an inspector in the First Division of the Public Security Office. Akane is a short girl with pale skin. She has brown eyes and short hair with bangs of the same color. She is most often seen in her work uniform, which consists of a white shirt with a raised collar, a black jacket fastened with two buttons, and a short skirt. She also wears tights. Outside of work, she can also be seen wearing a white sweater with blue stripes and a red or pink jacket. She often pairs this with a skirt and tights. In the second season, Akane's outfit changes. Her jacket is unbuttoned, and instead of a white shirt, she wears a yellow T-shirt. In this part, she also has a visible belt on her skirt. In the third season, she wears an orange short jacket, a black and white sweater, and gray pants. She wears dark shoes on her feet. Personality In the first episodes, Akane comes across as a shy girl who is not quite sure how to find her place in her new job. She often shows sensitivity and compassion towards others. On her first day on the job, she faces a dilemma as to whether her colleagues are doing the right thing by shooting an innocent, frightened woman, whom Sibyl has identified as a criminal, with a Dominator[1]. She does not abuse her rank and treats both enforcers and inspectors equally, which initially displeased Ginoza, who believed that they could take advantage of this[2]. Akane often thinks rationally and reasonably. She tries to choose options that are beneficial to both the system and the individual, which can be seen when she does not allow Kogami to murder Makishima, knowing that it will also bring about his downfall[3]. Despite her empathy and understanding towards those who are classified, Akane fiercely believes in the Sibyl System and cannot imagine society functioning without it .Akane's strengths are her clear Psycho-Pass and her ability to remain calm even in the most tragic situations. Nobuchika Ginoza He is an inspector in the First Division of the Public Security Office. Ginoza is an elegant, tall man with black hair and dark green eyes. He is usually seen wearing a black suit and tie and a white shirt. Despite his perfect eyesight, he wears glasses because, as he says, "He doesn't like his face, especially his eyes,"[1] which is because he doesn't want to look like his father, Masaoka. As an inspector, Ginoza takes his job seriously. He hates enforcers and considers them "dogs" who are supposed to obediently do their job. His attitude stems from the fact that his father, Masaoka, became a secret criminal when he was still a young boy. This hatred was deepened by the fact that Ginoza's friend, Inspector Kogami Shinya, was himself declared a hidden criminal by Sibyl over time, which Nobuchika interpreted as a betrayal. In the first season, his dismissive and distrustful attitude towards the enforcers, especially Tomomi and Shinya, is often noticeable. He also advises Akane not to fraternise with them, as it may backfire on her[2][3]. He also often shows his aggressive side. This can be seen, for example, when he considers hitting Akane in the face a last resort when she, in shock, refuses to say a word after reliving the memory of Yuki's death[4]. Another example is when Shinya ran away from the office. Nobuchika felt abandoned and, cursing, punched the wall[5]. Tomomi Masaoka He is an enforcer for the First Division of the Public Security Bureau. He previously worked as a detective. Tomomi is a man of average height with short, brown, spiky hair. He also has brown eyes and a stocky, yet athletic build for his age. Like other enforcers, Masaoka wears a black suit and tie, but he often wears a long, light brown trench coat on missions. He also has a prosthetic left arm and a scar across his lips. Personality Despite his age, Masaoka seems to be laid-back and easily makes friends with much younger colleagues. He likes to give advice and guidance, which can be seen when he helps Akane get acquainted with the work of an inspector. He obediently performs the duties entrusted to him. While still a detective, Tomomi did not support some of the Sibyl System's actions, which caused his Psycho-Pass to deteriorate and him to become classified, traumatising his son, Ginoza, who eventually began to despise his father and the enforcers[1]. Masaoka tries to be accepted by his son and wants him to see him as a support, but when the moment comes when Nobuchika does wrong, he does not hesitate to reprimand him[2]. Yayoi Kunizuka She was an enforcer for the First Division of the Public Security Bureau, where she was mostly involved in piloting and controlling drones. Yayoi is a tall, slim girl with blue eyes and long black hair, which she ties in a ponytail. She is usually seen wearing a black jacket, tie, white shirt and brown boots. When she goes on a mission, she often wears a coat. After leaving the office, she began wearing a green T-shirt and blue trousers. She also wears black boots and a sweatshirt of the same colour. Compared to previous appearances, her hair is now loose. Before joining the First Division, Yayoi is seen wearing a black and yellow tight-fitting outfit with an exposed neckline and midriff. She also wore gloves and earrings[1]. On her days off, she likes to wear hoodies. Personality Kunizuka is calm and composed, and even in the most tragic situations she is able to keep her emotions in check. She likes to spend her free time reading alone. When she speaks, she is usually brief and to the point. Despite her rather cool personality, Yayoi is capable of compassion. She worries about his teammates and often lectures them, especially Kagari. Even before joining the bureau, Yayoi had demonstrated intelligence and common sense, but her character was greatly influenced by Takizaki Rina, her former girlfriend, who was an anarchist opposed to the Sibyl system. Spending time with her, Yayoi's Psycho-Pass began to cloud, until she herself was referred for therapy. After spending time in isolation, Kogami offered her a job in the division, which she accepted with the idea that she would be able to meet Rina again and resolve unfinished business. Shusei Kagari He is the enforcer of the First Division in the Public Security Bureau. Appearance Kagari is a short, young man with pale skin. He has spiky red hair with four navy blue hair clips. He also has brown eyes. His outfit consists of a black shirt with rolled-up sleeves, trousers of the same colour, red socks, white shoes and a burgundy tie. He often wears a jacket and a silver watch. During missions, he is also seen wearing a blue coat. In his free time, Kagari also wears a white long-sleeved T-shirt and green trousers[1]. Kagari is the youngest member of Division One. He loves to joke around and tease his colleagues, even in serious situations. He can often be seen with a game console in his hands. He has many figurines on his desk, which may indicate his interest in the fictional universe. He is also a womaniser - his first reaction after seeing Akane is to say that she is beautiful and that he would like to go on a mission with her[2]. He likes to be lazy and does not put much effort into his work, especially office work. He often acts recklessly and is overly confident, which can be seen when he challenges Kogami the first time he sees him, thinking he can defeat him[3]. Kagari despises the Sibyl System and sees many flaws in it. He believes that the system treats citizens unfairly. He also does not know why he was classified as a secret criminal when he was only a few years old. He also mentioned that he acts as an enforcer only because otherwise he would face eternal isolation[4]. Shion Karanomori She is an analyst and doctor at the Public Security Office. Appearance Shion is a tall woman with pale skin. She has wavy black hair, which she dyes blonde, and brown eyes. Her lips are always painted with red lipstick. She wears a short red dress with a high collar, which she fastens so that her black bra is visible. She also wears a white necklace. As she is an analyst, she always wears a white lab coat. Karanomori seems to have a dismissive personality. In reality, however, she takes her work seriously, although she sometimes complains about its enormity. She can turn anything into a joke, even if the matter is truly tragic, as can be seen when she enthusiastically announces that a drone has found human remains in the sewer system. [3] Although she is in a relationship with Kunizuka, she likes to flirt by calling her colleagues at the office "darling". She is also friendly and talkative. She can also show compassion and comfort others in difficult times, as exemplified by the situation when she helped Akane recover after Kogami's disappearance. [4] Shion is interested in fashion and beauty treatments. She often advises her girlfriend on these matters. She also likes to read "women's" magazines, which are her favourite reading material.
