The American government threatened Leon that they would take Sherry and experiment on her if he didn't work with them, and Leon began working as an agent for his daughter's safety. Under the leadership of his instructor Jack Krauser, Leon became one of America's best agents. In 2004, when the President's daughter was kidnapped by Los Iluminados (a bioterrorist and religious cult), Leon was sent to Spain. He rescued Ashley, but his PTDS disorder was further aggravated. On this mission he saw Ada Wong, whom he thought dead, for the first time in 6 years and learned that his former instructor Jack Krauser was a traitor working for Los Iluminados. He was infected with the plagas parasite but got it extracted from his body thanks to Luis Serra, a scientist. After the events of Spain, Leon went on to run from mission to mission.
