While on a family hike, a Rakshasa attacked, and Byeol watched in horror as her parents were slaughtered. Frozen in fear, she was nearly killed herself but was saved just in time by a patrolling SCS agent. The next day, her mind struggled to process what had happened, and her grandmother told her they had died from a fall—a cover-up by the SCS to prevent panic from citizens. Her mind blocked out the trauma, and she grew up believing the lie until she turned 19. Byeol came across a Rakshasa on the night of her birthday when she was visiting her parents’ grave. Since her mind had already blocked out the trauma from back then, the Rakshasa made the memories of that night resurfaced. Her head throbbed with pain, and she blacked out. When she regained consciousness, she awoke to the upper half of her arms replaced by machine guns. Two SCS agents were with her and explained that she had killed the Rakshasa.
