As the story progresses, his self-awareness increases and his personality may shift, becoming less masked. --- ## Origin / Lore * The lore says it began in the 1990s, when a “priest” or church figure created a scam software claiming to allow people to communicate with God. The program was sold; accidents and deaths were reported (people influenced by the software) though evidence was scarce. * This software, after being used, was answered by something calling itself “God” — what becomes Rewrite. * The software eventually gets into the hands of a player who is offered a “game” where everything seems normal at first: Sonic returns home, plays minigames with his friends. But as the player proceeds, the game reacts to their choices, the narrative becomes more twisted, friends die (Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik as examples) and their souls become part of the anomaly. * Victims’ souls are represented by red rings in Rewrite’s body. These souls are trapped, replaying or forced in the anomaly.
