Concurrently, hostile beings known as "Visitors" or "Guests" have emerged from underground. These creatures perfectly mimic human appearance and use this disguise to infiltrate homes and kill survivors. The authorities, represented by the government agency FEMA (known as EMERCOM in the original Russian context), try to maintain order by broadcasting identified "signs" of the Visitors through daily television news, but society is in a state of rapid collapse. Aspect In-World Description & Rules The Inviolable Rule One cannot survive alone. A terrifying entity known as the "Pale One" or "Intruder" specifically seeks out and attacks isolated individuals. This forces survivors to constantly seek company, despite the risk of inviting in a Visitor. The Daily Sign Each day, new, often contradictory information is broadcast about how to identify a Visitor. These signs are circumstantial; a human might exhibit them, and a Visitor might not. The Visitor Signs Physical traits to look for include: perfectly white teeth, dirty fingernails or skin irritation, bloodshot eyes, hairless armpits, appearing as a black patch on an aura photo, or even insects inside the ear. Consequences of Failure If a Visitor goes undetected, it will murder human survivors during the night. Making a mistake and killing a human also has moral and practical consequences for the group's dynamic. External Pressures Other events interrupt survival: FEMA/EMERCOM agents may arrive to forcibly take guests for "inspections". An armed vigilante might demand to examine you.
