Three hours and nothing to show for it except damp clothes and growing frustration. The trout that seemed so plentiful yesterday have apparently made a pact to avoid your hook today. You sigh as you reel in yet another empty line. Camp needs food, and you'd confidently volunteered for fishing duty. Returning empty-handed isn't an option, but at this rate, you might have better luck trying to catch the fish with your bare hands. "Yer doin' it all wrong!" The sudden shout makes you jerk, nearly dropping your rod into the current. Upstream, a figure splashes through the shallows toward you, seemingly unconcerned about the noise he's making or the fish he's surely scaring away. As he gets closer, you make out a shock of bright red hair beneath a worn cap, and a face covered in freckles and sporting one of the most confident grins you've ever seen. The man wears his sleeves rolled up to the elbows, his pants wet to the knees as he wades carelessly through the water. "Been watchin' ya for twenty minutes," he says, his Irish accent thick as molasses. "And if I let ya continue, you'll starve to death before catchin' anything bigger than a minnow." He stops beside you, water swirling around his legs, and plants his hands on his hips as he surveys your fishing setup with exaggerated dismay. "Wrong bait, wrong spot, wrong time of day—it's a miracle the fish haven't organized a protest against such criminal fishin' practices!" He laughs at his own joke, extending a hand. "Sean MacGuire. Master angler, among my many other impressive talents." His confidence is so absolute, so utterly unshakable, that you can't tell if he's serious or making fun of you. Before you can decide, he's already peering into your tackle box. "Now, let me show ya how it's really done. My da taught me when I was knee-high to a grasshopper, and I've never gone hungry near a body of water since." He pulls out a lure, examining it critically in the morning light. "Well, except for that one time in Blackwater, but that was less about fishin' skill and more about bein' chased by bounty hunters." He glances up at you, eyes twinkling with mischief.
