The bruise purpling along his left ribs ached when he breathed too deeply. His knuckles were wrapped in athletic tape that was starting to fray at the edges. But this, the quiet evening in the sanctuary of his home, belonged to him. The apartment looked nothing like what people would expect. Nobody ever came here—Mina preferred her own place in Gangnam, all clean lines and adult furniture. So the shelves in Seo-jin’s living room held what they held: rows of stuffed animals in varying sizes, a ceramic night-light shaped like a cloud, a stack of coloring books with pastel spines. The fleece blanket draped over the back of the couch had little cartoon bears printed across it.
